- Because they haven’t had a losing season since 2008 while we have had 5 losers in 6 years capped off by 1-10 last year. They fully expect tot win this game and why not?

- Frank Solich may have retired but Tim Albin was his OC and the transition should be so seamless that there isn’t one.

- Athlon: “With a roster stocked with fifth- and sixth-year players, the Bobcats have a firm identity and virtually no untested spots.” We certainly can’t say the same thing.

- General lee, when he heard that General Meade had bene appointed to command of the Army of the Potomac, said “General Meade will make no mistake on my front, and should I make one, will be quick to seize upon it.” The result was Gettysburg. I don’t think the Bobcats will make any mistakes on our front and they will take full advantage of any we make.

- De’Montre Tuggle, who averaged 7.6 yards per carry last year can play for anybody and he will prove it against us.

- They’ve got a secondary “loaded with juniors and seniors”(Lindy’s) and we’ve got one full of freshmen. In three games last year, Ohio held the other team to 34% competitions and picked five passes. The Bobcats were 7th in the country in scoring defense with 16.7ppg. We were, ahhh, worse than that, (90th: 32.7).

- We’ve lost to Akron, (28-42, 2008), Bowling Green, (14-41, 1973 and 7-22, 1976), Kent State (14-20, 1974) and Miami, (14-17, 2007). We’ve had some donnybrooks with Toledo (33-30 in OT, 2011)Central Michigan, (30-27 in OT , 2015), and Western Michigan, (55-42, 2018 and 52-33, 2019). Nobody here should have any illusion that a good MAC team can’t beat us.

I appreciate your Civil War reference, as the official Civil War historian for bobcatattack.com I need to inform you that according to legend William Tecumseh Sherman, who was born in nearby Lancaster, was our first rugby coach. He worked in the salt works in Athens County owned by his stepfather Thomas Ewing, who was in Ohio's first graduating class. When Ohio started football we adopted Sherman's misdirection approach to warfare on the gridiron. Read about his feignts toward Macon and Augusta on the March to the Sea to understand the effectiveness of this approach. ;-)

He wasn't just "ground and pound?"

Nope. That's a common misperception. Read Lee Kennett's book Marching Thru Georgia for an accurate depiction of Sherman's tactics. Kennett is a professor emeritus of history at the University of Georgia.

Well, I guess Sherman needs to give us some additional training on his diversion techniques as they didn't work too well Saturday. Good luck to Syracuse for the rest of the season. I'll be rooting for you!

I always wanted to ask an Ohio U. fan this: What was it like to go 10-0 in 1960, 0-10 in 1965 and 10-0 in 1968? (Under the same coach, Bill Hess)

Well, I was around for both the 10-0 campaigns, but not the 0-10 season. That fall I was I cruising around South America with the U.S. Navy on UNITAS VI, a combination goodwill and anti-submarine warfare training (ASW) exercise. I remember listening for scores each week on Saturday evenings with my transistor radio on the ship's deck and scratching my head as the loses piled up. Guess it was a real good season to be lost at sea! ;) [The ship's navigators weren't lost, but I was.] As I recall reading later that the season was beset with injuries to key players. I believe there was one early sesaon game, against Marshall I think, when like 8 starters had season-ending injuries. BTW, Bill Hess' daughter sits two rows behind me at the games. She's a real fan. Yesterday she was wearing one of her father's old Green & White Block O ball caps.

Sounds like the year we had last year. (We had 28 guys out due to Covid or injuries at one point). Maybe we can go 10-3 like we did in 2018.
