- Because this is ‘Hell Week’ for SU fans. A week ago our basketball team was undefeated and our football team had two chance to become bowl eligible. Now our basketball team is 3-3 and this is our last chance for a bowl. How did you think it would end? - Because they are Pittsburgh and we are just Syracuse. They have won 16 of the last 19 games against SU: Syracuse vs Pittsburgh 2002-2020 The average score has been 21-32. And this is Pitt’s best team during that span. It’s not ours. (They beat ours three years ago.) - Their offensive coordinator, Mark Whipple is one of the great offensive minds of our time. Ours isn’t. - Our supposed defensive prowess was built up mostly against teams that didn’t have top quarterbacks. We did do well against Malik Willis of Liberty. But Jordan Travis, Sam Hartman, Malik Cunningham and Devin Leary all got at least 33 points on us, and the last three all got to 40. Kenny Pickett is better than any of them. He’s got 36 touchdown passes and just 6 interceptions. Our guys have also thrown only 6 interceptions – and 8 total touchdown passes. Our opposition has 18TDs passes vs. 3 interceptions. Mr. Pickett can be expected to add to that. - I’ve given up on the thought that this SU will ever generate another turnover. And we already had our kick return for a touchdown. - What we do well is to run the football: we are 8th in the country with 231 yards per game. And what Pitt really does well is to stop the run. They have the 8th best rushing defensive in the country at 98.8 yards per game. Dino Babers said “Something’s gotta give”. (That was a good movie.) I think that’s us. - Basically, if you wanted to construct a team to beat Syracuse, Pitt is that team.
