- Because of the ides of September: Dino won his first game in 2016, 33-7 over Colgate but then lost to 28-62 to Louisville the next week. He opened 2017 by beating Central Connecticut 50-7 but them lost to Middle Tennessee State 23-30. In 2018 he beat Western Michigan 55-42 and fortunately had Wagner scheduled for the second game, which he won 62-7. In 2019 we shut out Liberty 24-0 but then came the Maryland debacle, 20-63. Last year, for the first time we lost the opener to North Carolina, 6-31. We’re thinking 6-6 but getting to 2-0 is our big problem.

- Because Greg Schiano loves to beat Syracuse so he can laugh at us. Rutgers is 5-25-1 against Syracuse when someone else is their head coach and 7-5 with Schiano, (7-3 after he lost the first two).

- Because Rutgers is better than Syracuse. Last year, while we were going 1-10, this team was winning three big ten road games. They also took Michigan into overtime and lost by a field goal to Illinois and a touchdown to Nebraska. Rutgers has upgraded their facilities and budget, out- recruited us and they are in bringing in top transfers as well. They are going places. Are we?

- Because 61-17 beats 29-9.

- Because Rutgers forced 5 turnovers, including a Pick 6 and another interception returned to the 2 yards line. They also scored a safety, three sacks and 10 tackles for a loss. They are going to put full pressure on our patch-up offensive line and Tommy DeVito, who is famous for giving up on plays when pressured. They are also aware of Sean Tucker, who will have plenty of company. Their outstanding edge rushers, Mike Tverdov and Mohamed Toure are joined by (per Athlon): one of the Big Ten’s best linebacker corps, headed by Olakinde Fatukasi, the conference’s leading tackler with 101 stops a year ago.” Max Melton was their answer to Dice Chestnut last week with a Pick 6.

- Max’s brother Bo is a fine wide receiver. His partner, Shameen Jones, is said to be great in the red zone, (don’t you wish we had someone great in the red zone?). Aron Cruickshank is a potential game breaker as is Isaih Pacheco from the running back position.

- But where the Scarlet Knights are really strong is special teams, a Schiano specialty. Cruikshank returned two kickoffs for touchdowns last season and averaged 28.3 on kickoffs vs. Temple and nearly the same, (27.5) on two punts. Adam Korsak averaged a stunning 49.7 on eight punts and Valentino Ambrosio, who hit 9 of 11, made a field goal. We usually have an advantage here but we may be struggling to keep up this time.

- What if McKinley Williams, Jonathan Kingsley and Garrett Williams are all limping and not just on Tuesday?

Because the computer says so:
