- Our guys have seen nothing but losing records and they are hungry to take down Florida State, a team they’ve never beaten, (our one win in the series being in 1966). They know this game could be the lynchpin of the season and they want this to be the breakthrough season for this program.
- The Seminoles seem to be going through an identity crisis. They are switching from Jimbo Fisher’s pro-style offense to Willie Taggart’s hurry-up spread. We’ve been doing what Taggart wants to do but Dino Babers has had two years to install it and to get a roster full of players recruited for it.
- Florida State’s program seems to have declined from their 2013 national title team. I think its temporary- we need to beat them now. Athlon’s ACC preview had these comments from opposing ACC coaches: ““The big problem the new staff will face is the offense was recruited as a pro-style unit and the new staff is more of a spread, power-run type deal. Taggart likes to run his quarterback and likes to have that extra threat in the backfield. None of these quarterbacks on the roster are going to be a run game threat. They can scramble and pick up first downs but something is going to have to change. The biggest difference between the FSU that won it all in 2013 and now is the defense. They don’t get after the quarterback like they used to and, as important, they don’t cover like they used to. They used to man cover as good as or better than anyone in college football. The last couple of years, guys in our league have been running wide open.”
- The Noles, as everyone has noted, have some serious problems with their offensive line. We consider our defensive line probably the strongest unit of our team. They were not impressive against Western Michigan but they completely overpowered Wagner. Wagner is not Florida State but Florida State isn’t Florida State, at least in the offensive line. If we can contain Akers and keep Francois and Blackmon on the run, we can win this game.
- If it’s close, the kickers will matter. Their heralded kicker, Ricky Aguayo, is 1 for 4. Our unheralded kicker, Andre Szmyt, is 4 for 4.
- Samford is better than Wagner. They’d probably beat the Seahawks by 3-4 touchdowns. But we beat them by 62 points.
- Will the home crowd make a difference? That’s up to us.
2-0 with 10+ to go!
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
