- Because we should be an easy 5-1, maybe 6-0 and that is who we are. Clemson couldn’t over-take us until there were 41 seconds left in the game and Pitt had to hit 54 and 55 yard field goals to get into overtime. They also got a controversial fumble return for a score. Even with those results, Syracuse ifs a 10.5 point favorite with an 86% chance to win. We shouldn’t let a “perfect storm game” get us thinking that we aren’t a good team.
- A bad run defense vs. a good run offense is a bad match-up but so is a bad quarterback situation vs. a D-line that’s rolling up the sacks. The Heels have two injured QBs, Cade Fortin and Chazz Surratt, who are likely out for the year. Nathan Elliott has some experience but wasn’t good enough to win the positon outright. Athlon: “He lacks the size and physical tools Surratt possesses but he impressed coaches and teammates with his leadership and toughness.” They have one more guy, Jace Ruder, (where do they get these names?), who has never played a down. Their QB problems are the reason they can’t seem to get the ball to their best player, Anthony Ratliff-Williams, who had 16 catches in 5 games. Against our front four, there won’t be much time to get the ball to him, either.
- Yes, North Carolina coulda shoulda beaten California and Virginia Tech. But they lost 19-41 to East Carolina while giving up 510 yards. And they lost 10-47 to the Miami Hurricanes a good team that proved that UNC wasn’t.
- Eric Dungey is a better quarterback than we saw against Pittburgh and he will prove it in this game.
- We are +8 in turnovers. They are -8.
- We are leading the country in field position and have a kicker who is 16 for 17 on field goals with a 54 yarder. We have one of the best punters in the country. Those things win close games.
- Ravian Pierce and Anton Cordy will be back. Pierce will give us an extra weapon on offense, especially in the red zone. Cordy will strengthen the back 7 on defense.
- We are playing so many young players, I think we can get better, rather than worse as the season progresses. We are seeing more of Jarveon Howard and Taj Harris on offense and have already been playing young guys in the back seven on defense. And there are other guys we could see more of, like Shy Cullen, Tyrell Richards, Lakiem Williams, Eric Coley, Ifeatu Melifonwu, Cam Jordan and others.
- This is not 2015 or 2017. We’re going to start winning again and get to a bowl and really get the momentum moving forward for this program. By the way, Charlie brown did once get to kick the ball, on November 12, 1956, the week of the Jim Brown’s 43 point game vs. Colgate:
