Why SYRACUSE will win
- I’ve seen many a potent offensive team suddenly wilt in front of a great defense. We have a tremendous combination of great pass rushers and great cover guys who make big plays. We’ve got some talented young linebackers, too. Josh Jackson is a pocket passer, not a dual threat guy. All those highlight plays with the Howard defenders jogging toward the guy with the ball as he runs to the end zone will be a memory.
- Tommy DeVito will iron out the problems with his receivers and they will get the timing down that was sorely missing last week. Maryland will not try a gimmick defense to avoid the big play. They think they are going to out-score us anyway. They’ll play us straight up and get burned.
- Maryland has just four starters back from a defensive unit that gave up 390 and 29 points per game. yes they have some interesting transfers but how well will they work together at this early stage? They didn’t have to work much at all last week.
- Maryland has only 7 returning starters between their two units. They have only one returning starter in each line. We are going to keep a quick pace: how will their depth hold out?
- Our best line is Servais at center flanked by Adams, Dakota Davis and Vettorello and Alexander at tackles. This time we’re going to start with that group out there.
- Sean Riley will not leave the ball on the ground and our kicking game will continue to give us the big advantages in field position we have grown accustomed to. Maryland lost their punter from last year and didn’t punt against Howard, so they have no idea what they’ve got on the kicking end. They are actually going to use two freshman punters, each auditioning for the positon.
- We’re better than these guys and we’re going to prove it in all phases. GameDay will be here. Book it.
