- The uniforms are the same but the team isn’t. That isn’t Jamis Winston coming out of that tunnel. There are two common opponents. FSU beat NC State 31-13 – clearly their best game of the year- and we lost to them 10-16. But both teams lost to Clemson by similar margins: 14-45 and 6-41 and I think our game was actually closer before the Tigers got a couple of late scores.
- Offensive stats: Akers uis better than our running backs but overall they’ve rushed for just 15 yards a game more than we have: 110-125. They’ve also out-passed us by a small margin 261-282. We’ve completed 61% to 66%. Touchdown passes are 14-17. Interceptions are 6-7. They’ve gained 407 yards a game to our 371. So they are a bit better on offense.
- But we are a bit better on defense: We give up 148 yards per game on the ground to 166. We give up 270 yards a game through the air but they give up 293, for a total of 419-459.
- We are +3 in turnovers. They are +1. We are averaging 9 penalties a game for 75 yards. But they are averaging 8/72. We are converting 35% of third and fourth down and giving up 37%. They are converting 36% and giving up 37%. We are averaging a net 44 yards on punts to 40 for them. Andre Szmyt does seem as automatic as last year but he’d kicked 9 of 11 field goals. Ricky Aguayo is a dismal 4 of 9. FSU is averaging 25 yards per kickoff return and 9 yards per punt return. We are getting only 18 yards per kickoff but Sea Riley is getting 11.5 per punt.
- Their injured list is longer than ours:

They have defiantly 9 guys out, 2 questionable and two probable. Jackson is their starting middle linebacker. Kaindoh is a starting defensive end. Wilson is their AA candidate at nose tackle. Johnson is their starting center. Helton is a second string wide-out. Fagan is a second string safety. (He has a lot of little helpers.)
- We can make some big plays, too. Trishton Jackson, Taj Harris and Luke Benson have all scored on long ones. And Moe Neal and Abdul Adams can if we can just give them a chance.
- Addition by subtraction: Ryan Alexander was playing so badly that his experience was no advantage over Matthew Bergeron, who has played well in short stretches. And the offensive line is interconnected. If you can solve a problem in one spot that can solve problems in other spots. I’d also like to see more of Pat Davis and maybe we’ll finally have a Qadir White sighting. It couldn’t’ be worse than what we’ve seen so far.
- FSU’s defensive line isn’t comparable to NC State’s and Pitt’s. We may actually be able to run our offense in this game. Even if Wilson plays, the middle of our line hasn’t been the problem. Airon Servais flanked by Evan Adams and Dakota Davis will prevent Wilson from dominating.
- Could we get the ball to Aaron Hackett and Luke Benson? Please?
- We aren’t going to go 0 for the ACC. This game will turn around our season.
- You know what happened to Bobbit’s worm.
3-4 and 5+ to go!
