- Are we supposed to be afraid of an 0-4 team that we crushed 49-6 in their place last year? Duke, in fact has lost 9 of their last ten games. David Cutliffe’s, (72-79 in 12 years) magic seems to have evaporated. They look more like the school that went 19-116 in the 12 years before he arrived,
- They couldn’t even beat a Virginia Tech team that was missing 21 players and two coaches due to the pandemic.
- We are 4th in the country in turnovers gained with 10, (two of the teams ahead of us have played 4 games). Duke is 75th, (and last) in the country in turnovers lost with 15 in 4 games. We are 3rd in turnover margin, (really tied for second: the two teams ahead of us are tied) +6. Duke is #70, -7. A big factor last year was that the only three turnovers of the game were by Duke in their first three possessions of the second half.
- But the biggest reason to favor Syracuse is Syracuse. Dino Babers has been building up the talent in this program and we saw it on display two weeks ago with all the young players who contributed: Jawhar Jordan, Sean Tucker, Josh Ilaoa, Marlowe Wax, Stefon Thompson, Steve Linton, Garrett Williams, Neil Nunn, Ja'Had Carter, Rob Hanna, Aman Greenwood, Chase Atkinson – and those are just the freshman. We have a strong defense, an excellent kicking game, a revitalized return game thanks to Nykeim Johnson, a revitalized running game thanks to Tucker and Tommy DeVito, who was sacked just once vs. Tech and threw two long TD passes. He has plenty of good targets. We are evolving into a complete team and a much better one than Duke. Sorry, Vegas.
1-2 and 8(?) to go!
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
