- Over the years our record against the Irish hasn’t been that bad: Syracuse vs Notre Dame 1869-2019
We’ve beaten them three times and the last two times we didn’t even have a winning record. Perhaps there should have been a fourth win: 1961, when by a literal interpretation of a bad rule that was subsequently changed, we did win the game but the NCAA refused to change the result and Notre Dame refused to concede the game. One loss was in 1914. We’ve lost a 16 point game and a 17 point game. The 3-36 loss was our best team of this century and our star quarterback went down early. The 10-34 loss was our last 1-10 team. We’d probably take that score as a positive performance this year.

- This is a very strong Notre Dame team but they haven’t generally blown out the opposition. They beat South Florida 52-0 and Pittsburgh 45-3. That could happen to us. Their other wins are by 14, 16, 5, 18, 7, 15 and 14 points. Why can’t that be us?

- It’s been a very frustrating season for us but there’s only been three games where we went into the fourth quarter with the game essentially decided. Liberty had us down 14-35. Wake Forest was gifted with a couple of turnovers early in the third quarter which, combined with an 80 yard pass, turned a 7-17 game into a 7-38 disaster. Our offense couldn’t budge the Louisville defense and that game was 0-27 going into the fourth quarter. Our other scores going into the fourth quarter have been 6-10, 10-21, 30-20, 21-30, 21-34, 6-10 and 29-27. Our problem has not been competing: it’s been competing for four quarters. But if you can hang in there that long, something crazy could still happen. We were down 10-23 going into the fourth quarter in 2008 and the touchdown Jesus saw us come back to win, 24-23. We were 3-9 that year.

- Who says that we couldn’t get a 98 yard kickoff return, a 60 yard pass play, a 27 yard punt return, a 22 yard interception return, (to the 5 yard line), and a safety in this game? Those are the things we do.

- It’s 2020 for Notre Dame, too.

- Even if we don’t pull off the big upset, maybe we can win the day anyway if the SU basketball team beats Rider by more than Notre Dame’s football team beats ours. Any takers on that one?

1-9 and 1 to go!

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!

Best line of reasoning? "It's 2020 for Notre Dame, too"
