- Over the years we’ve had great trouble with teams that had multi-threat quarterbacks but have done pretty well against pocket passers. We’ve got the multi-threat quarterback. They’ve got the pocket passer. When we get the two-man game of Tucker or Shrader running or Shrader passing to Tucker or to thew wide outs or to (thank you God!) the tight end, that’s when Shrader becomes the Shredder. - We don’t have Thompson but we have plenty of other guys who can make like difficult for a pocket quarterback. The whole defense is geared to aggression. We have one linemen who is as much as 270. The rest are more like defensive ends. The linebackers are mobile and the safeties big or fast or both. The fact that Purdue lacks a power running game plays into our hands. Our defense was built to stop their offense. - We’ve completed 40 passes to 12 guys. Tucker is our leading receiver with 10. Charlie Jones has caught 21 of their 47 completions. The second place guy has 6 catches. Even a great receiver can be handled if he’s the only guy to worry about. And his battles with Garrett Williams and Duce Chestnut will be interesting to watch- both here and in the pros. - We can put 6-5 Damien Alford, 6-6 Oronde Gadsden and 6-7 Max Mang out there for the 6-4 Shrader to play catch with. O’Connell is 6-3 but his wideouts all seem to be around 6 feet even. - The staff has been trying to convert 6-4 275 Wes Hoeh into an Elmore-type lead blocker for Sean Tucker, whose one ‘chunk play’ was a 55 yard bolt with a swing pass vs. Louisville. Hopefully, we’ll see some results this week. You keep getting the ball to guy like Tucker, good things are bound to happen. - Remember, when we have the ball, the JMA Wireless Dome is a library. When they have it, it’s a rock concert. 2-0 and 10+ to go! LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
