- Because that wasn’t the real Syracuse team we saw against Villanova. They couldn’t get up for that team, which they severely under-rated. They had a reshuffled offensive line. Losing Hunt threw out much of the playbook, (including the QB keeper at the goal line). This is our real opener.
- Purdue was 1-11 last year and out-scored 179-456. They beat Indiana State 20-14 and that was it. A really sad program right now, at a G-Rob level team. We aren't.
- Central Michigan lost to Michigan 9-59 last year. They lost to NC State 14-48. That doesn’t get us any points but it points out the true difference between the Big Five conferences and the MAC. I remember when we traveled to play a good Toledo team in 1999, I had that same “What are we doing here?” feeling and we won easily, 35-12. We’ll take care of business this time, too.
- Yes, I think the return of our starting guard will fix the offensive line and that the presence of Hunt will open up the playbook and we’ll see a completely different offense than we saw that first week.
- I think the defense will be glad to see a conventional pocket quarterback and, to use Coach’s Mac favorite phrase, will “visit” with him enough times to make a difference in this contest. As to the running game, Bear Bryant’s best teams at Alabama were famous for small linemen and backers who swarmed all over the other team. Getting there firstest with the mostest doesn’t necessarily mean the biggest. It can mean the most men, too.
- I’m not sure Central Michigan is any better than Villanova. People forget that Division 1AA was created for schools that wanted to be thought of as Division 1 schools but had no real chance at a national championship. They are still in Division 1 but they have a title they could win. Some scho9ols like Central Michigan, (who won the second ever Division 2 title in 1974 when there was no 1AA), opted to be in the bottom half of 1A. Villanova, (who had been considered a major college school until 1980), opted to compete for the 1AA title and won it in 2009. Remember that the Big East considered bringing them in if they would move up. Both of these are Division 1 schools and they both play good football. We just beat one and we can beat this one, too.
- This “Orange” team has waiting two weeks to prove that that opener was who they really are. They are sick of the criticism. You could hear it in the coach’s voice on the show last night. They are going to make a statement tomorrow and we are going to feel an awful lot better about this team on Sunday Mornings than we do on Friday Morning.
- If this team will play better because they like their uniforms more, it’s time to prove it.
1-0 with 11 (12?) to go…..
