[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 1159073, member: 289"] - 3-59 is a short bar to jump over. Anything better than that will be a “win” of sorts. - Let’s go over the obligatory Nebraska game comparisons and near- comparisons. Led by Heisman Trophy winner Mike Rozier, they beat us by 56 points in 1983 when they were ranked #1, (FSU was still #2 when the game started last year). They played Miami in a national title gamer they would have won after a great comeback if a two point conversion wasn’t batted away. That team averaged 50 points a game. In 1984 we played miserably in getting shut out by Rutgers by Rutgers in the Dome. Nebraska came in off of a 42-3 demolition of what was supposed to be a good UCLA team. . They were ranked #1 but had lost some key players from the previous year’s team, including Rozier. They were probably looking ahead to a game against an undefeated Oklahoma State team the next week. The talent on our team in 1983 wasn’t any better than what we have now. And we won. - Florida State beast us by 56 points behind their Heisman Trophy winner last year and went on to win the national title, averaging 52 points a game. They are still #1 but not the same team this year. We stunk up the Dome in a loss to Louisville, (a much better team than Rutgers was in 1983). Everybody is feeling down. The Seminoles have no reason to think they will lose this game and are likely looking forward to their big confrontation with undefeated Notre Dame next week. We’ve got them right where we want them. - Florida State has injury problems of their own, with their leading running back doubtful for the game, their top receiver at least hobbled and their starting center out, which can create problems. A bad snap or two could help us and the center makes the calls in the internal line play. Some stunts could confuse him. - The 2014 Noles aren’t the 2013 Noles. They were murdering everybody last year. Boston College got to within 14 points and Auburn within three in the national title game but nobody else got within four touchdowns and their average margin of victory was 40 points. This year they’ve won by 6, 25, 6 in overtime, 15, (after being down by 17 and 40 over a terrible Wake Forest team. Somebody is going to knock them off. Why not us? - Maybe all the changes on the Syracuse team will be positive. Tim Lester could prove to be a better play-caller than George MacDonald. Austin Wilson is surely a more talented passer than Terrel Hunt. Maybe he or Long or Kimble will use this opportunity to emerge and take the QB job by the end of the year. And we will have running backs running the ball, not the quarterback. Hunt was a good running quarterback but would really rather see him running the ball than Gulley,. Moore, Morris, MacFarlane or Phillips? And maybe they will finally put two of those guys in the backfield at the same time so that the defense won’t be sure who is going to get the ball on a running play. - This won’t be painful because we have been liberated form our expectations. Bring a good book, (again I suggest Scott Pitoniaks’ 100 Things Syracuse Fans Should Know or do Before They Die). At least you can get some reading done. 2-3 with 7+ to go….. LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
