- South Florida seems, on the surface at least to be exactly the sort of team we’d like to play in our first road game. Taggart is 7-21 in his tenure there. We were 3-9 last year because we got wiped out by injuries. Before that we’d won three bowl game sin four years. I think we now know that 3-9 record was an anomaly. 7-21 is not. - The Bulls have a strong running game and mostly eschew the pass because they aren’t that good at it. Their strength plays to our s and their weakness will prevent them from exploiting ours. - Our offense is a ticking time bomb set to go off. We just needed to get healthy. Eric Dungy possesses all the skills Tim Lester wants for his offense and adds to it poise rare for a true freshmen, the intelligence to master the offense, an awareness of what is going on out there and the ability to put touch on his passes and throw catchable balls. He’s going to play this offense like a violin. - I want to see Brisley Estime and Erv Phillips on the field at the same time. Two guys who can catch the ball, run with the ball, turn on a dime and motor past people. They aren’t our only weapons but they are our ICBMs. - And isn’t it time we got Steve Ismael more i9nvovled in the offense. He’s got all the skills you want in a wide-out and he’s caught 9 balls in four games. That’s 27 for the year. He should have a minimum of twice that. - A squid has long tentacles and a beak in the middle that chews up anything the tentacles can grab. A good football teams has its home run threats and a running game that chews up the defense on the inside. With Jordan Fredericks, Devonte McFarlane and George Morris, we’ve got the potential to be a squid team. Fredericks and Morris are both averaging 5.8 yards per carry. McFarlane has yet to get going at 3.3 but he’s in the same class. With the move of a now healthy Rob Trudo back to guard and Jason Emerich taking over at center I think we’ve now got the offensive line we need to really get the ground game going. And with the defense worried about Estime, Phillips and Ismael, they should really start chomping. Our running game: - Out of 128 FBS team, South Florida, in games against FBS teams is #126 in third down conversions. Syracuse is #127. There could be a lot of punting in this game. That plays into our hands. We are #1 in the country in “defensive field position” with 23.6. That and other advanced stats can be found in this article: http://www.underdogdynasty.com/american-athletic-conference/2015/10/9/9486635/south-florida-bulls-vs-syracuse-orange-preview-tv-streaming-start which also tells us that USF has a 7.7% ‘havoc’ rate but we have a ‘stuff rate’ of 32.5%, which is very impressive. However, they say “The Orange are good versus the pass in allowing only 162.5 yards per game in the air.” Which confuses out offensive output, (that’s 162.5) which what we actually allow on defense (255.0), so who knows what their havoc rate and our stuff rate actually is? 3-1 with 8 or 9 to be done….. LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
