Why Villanova Will Win

- We have been flirting with disaster vs. FCS teams in recent years. Last year we had a walk-over against a Wagner team that had lost everybody from a playoff team the year before. But we were down at the half vs. Stony brook the year before. In 2011 we beat a 3-8 Rhode Island team by a touchdown. Maine drove us crazy with their gimmick plays. Scott Shafer says Villanova, who won the FCS national title in 2009 and are pre-season ranked #12 in the division. The day is going to come when we pay the price for scheduling teams we’d get no credit for beating but plenty of blame for losing to. Frankly, I’d rather play Penn State.


- A football team can be elevated by a great quarterback. Look at Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel. The Wildcats have their own version of Johnny football in John Robertson, who passed for 1957 yards and ran for 1405 more. Mobile quarterbacks have always driven us crazy in the past. Do you think it will be any different this year?


- Our defensive front is unsettled at best and undersized both in the line and linebackers. Wildcats not only have Robertson but running back Kenneth Monangi rushed for 1,210 yard two years ago so our run defense will be sorely tested.


- We are going to hurry it up this year. But our proven ability on offense seems to be in the running game, not the passing game. Can you hurry it up with the running game?


- If we need to win this game with the kicking game, will Ryan Norton be up to it?

Steve, I agree with everything you say except your 'druther about playing Penn State in the opener.

I'm tired of losing that first game to a P5 school and then have all the locals stay away from the Dome for the next home game. Let us have a couple of wins under our collective belt before we go into the lion's den.
