We should extend his contract through 2026. But it only goes into effect should he get 12+ Ws combined in 2022 and 2023. So if he goes 5-7 and 6-6 it doesn't activate. At that point we either move on or renegotiate. If he goes 5-7 and 7-5 it activates the extension. We probably would still need to add more years at that point. If he goes 4-8 or worse next season you move on without adding anything to the buyout.

Extending to 2026 allows Dino to tell recruits his contract runs through their time at Cuse. It will help a lot. It also allows us to go and get the best OC we can find. Unless 2022 is a disaster, they will have 2 years to get results. And they can sign a 2 year contract as OC. Putting all of our eggs into the 2022 basket will make it harder to get an OC and it will limit you to hiring the best OC for 2022 and not necessarily the best OC.

We are doing Dino, the players, the program, and the fans wrong by not committing to 2 years.
