Like, there aren’t schools who are crushing NIL now who are going to do that every year for the next 20 years (and who knows what paying players is going to look like 20 years from now, or even 2 years from now). Instead of programs consistently winning 20-something games every season and sometimes hitting 30, we’re gonna see those big schools have a few really good seasons and then a 15 win season, and then back up to 20+ wins, and then back down, and so on.

There’s very little inertia in the success of teams in this landscape of unrestricted free agency with no salary cap.  You can’t guess who will be really good the following season based on how good they were the current season.  You can’t guess how bad a team will be next season based on how bad they were this season.  Well, you can guess, but it’s a shot in the dark.  There’s no player development.  There are no ‘program guys;’ and this is true across the landscape of college bball, not just in our corner.

All of that means practically every team is a couple big checks on a couple right guys away from being really good.  In the next 20 years, we’ll probably write some checks to some right guys at some point.  And that would/could be enough.  There’s no ‘rebuilding’ anymore.  Your house doesn’t burn down and you get to work building it back up from the foundation, in this environment.  Instead, you order a new house and have it delivered ready to go.
