https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indianapolis_Olympians The Olympians were constructed to feature five players from the 1948-49 Kentucky NCAA champions, who had also been the core of our 1948 Olympic team. The young NBA wanted a team near Kentucky that starred the guys from the Kentucky team. Unfortunately, they weren't quite good enough to beat George Mikan's Indianapolis Lakers and more unfortunately, the two most prominent players, Alex Groza and Ralph Beard, had been shaving points. They wound up getting banned and the franchise folded. The Knicks now have four former Villanova teammates, who also won a couple of NCAA championships. This past year they they had a lot of injuries but a lot of people think they might have given the Celtics a run for their money if they'd had better lucky with their health. Next year's Boston- New York games could be really something. Once again, gambling has become a big part of the game, (and sports). Hopefully everyone has kept their noses clean. It should make for quite a rivalry. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5591883/2024/06/25/mikal-bridges-trade/?source=pulsenewsletter&campaign=10243479&userId=5973799
