I’ve gotta say, I’ve never seen a more mutually beneficial move than TD going to Illinois. It worked out VERY well for him, and it worked out VERY well for us. It’s nice to see that the 4* QB carousel can benefit all parties from time to time.

I'm glad he's getting a redemption arc and making the most of the opportunity to lead another program. I feel the Illinois fans and program have to be really happy to have him. Looks like he fits what they want to do on offense really well. I don't check their fan boards, but I wonder if his play has outgrown some of the things he was given criticism for here.

He is playing this season like he did vs FSU his first year year. He is managing the game and isn't being asked to do very much. The QB at SU needs to be able to make plays. The Illinois QB this year needs to only not mess up (see Sitkowski leading them to a W vs Iowa). He has struggled this year against the decent D teams.

I watched a lot of the Illinois game yesterday, the phrase “pitch and catch” was used a couple times to describe the passing game for Illinois and it seemed accurate. Looked a lot like Shrader vs Wagner. Tommy had some opportunities for exceptional throws and hit a couple and missed a couple.

The offensive coordinator didn’t really help TVD on a few plays, I’ve thought that as well in prior games I’ve seen this year - kind of put Tommy in a very tough throwing situation with bad angles or little room for error. Anyway, game manager is an apt description. Of course having Chase Brown and a great o line will help
Any qb look good.

Tommy graduated from Syracuse, so he is a fellow alum. He made a wise choice for himself going to a coach who is known for exceptional OL play, Bret Bielema.

That said, I think Shrader would be a better fit with Anae's offense than Tommy. You still have to think and react on the move at SU and make something out of nothing sometimes. We don't have a Bret Bielema OL.

He is very much a 1 read type QB.. get the play, run the play, dont go to 2-3-4 reads on a play.. In our offense he was asked to get the play and read the D and then adjust with the WRS on the fly .

The new offense seems to be different, we get the play. Shrader then reads the D, but he adjust who he throws to based on what he sees , but the WRs are not adjusting routees on the fly. Much simpler but also less able to beat the D at times.

With both of these guys having huge success, how the heck did we go 5-7 last year?
Play calling and time mismanagement in crucial spots. That’s in the past though, it was the birthing pains of this current beautiful team.
