[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 1152415, member: 289"] THE SYSTEM: The offense wins a play if they get a third of the way to a first down on first down, half way to a first down on second down or gets a first down on third or fourth down. Otherwise the defense wins. Any score is a win for the team that scores. Any turnover is a win for the team that winds up with the ball. The kicking team wins a kick-off where the other team winds up with the ball from their own 25 in to their goal line: outside of that and the receiving team won. The kicking team wins any punt that produces a new +40 yard change in the line of scrimmage or forces the other team to begin from their 20 yard line in. Anny successful place kick is a win for the kicking team. I’ve put the yards to go in parenthesis if it’s other than 10 yards. Penalties are simply tacked onto the play before the play is evaluated if they didn’t nullify it. If the penalty did nullify the play or was a dead ball foul, it’s listed separately. When Syracuse Had the Ball: KO- SU 37, LOU 35, LOU 33 (net 42 after safety), LOU 18, LOU 45 (net 33 after safety) SU 2 LOU 3 (I’ll treat the kick-offs after the safeties the same way I do punts: we win if we netted 40+ yards) P- 44 to LOU 27, 49 to LOU 31, 40 to LOU 35, 44 to LOU 39, 20 to LOU 20, 34 to LOU 27, 39 to LOU 48 SU 4 LOU 3 FG- GOOD from 21, GOOD from 24 SU 2 LOU 0 XP- none Total for kicking game: Syracuse 8 Louisville 6 1st rush-3, 1(5), -4, 6, 4, 3, 7, 5, 19, -3, -2, 18, 3, 11, 19, 1 SU 8 LOU 7 1st pass- I, 22, I, I, I, I, 6, I, -10, 13, -15 SU 3 LOU 8 First Down total: Syracuse 11 Louisville 15 2nd rush- -1(safety), 4(4), 3(6), 0 SU 2 LOU2 2nd pass- 7, 3(7), I, 8(14), 1(7), 2, I, I, 39, 1(3), I, I, 8, 6, I, I SU 5 LOU10 Second Down total: Syracuse 7 Louisville 12 3rd run- 3(1), -2, 5(5) SU 2 LOU 1 3rd pass- 2(3), 12(4), I, I, 6(3), 48(3), 13(19), I, I, I, I, -5 (safety) SU 3 LOU 9 Third Down total: Syracuse 5 Louisville 10 4th run- none 4th pass-none Fourth Down total: none Total for plays from scrimmage: Syracuse 31 Louisville 47 Running plays: Syracuse 12 Louisville 10 Passing plays: Syracuse 11 Louisville 27 Penalties (not added on to play): SU 0 LOU 2 (penalties by the other team that each team benefited by) Turnovers: SU 0 LOU 2 Total for penalties and turnovers: Syracuse 0 Louisville 4 Total when Syracuse had the ball: Syracuse 31 Louisville 47 When Louisville had the ball: KO- SU 16, SU 15, SU 25, SU 25, SU 15 SU 0 LOU 5 P- 21 to SU 20, 44 to SU 1, 52 to SU 9, 9 to SU 49, 53 to SU 19, 35 to SU 19, 33 to SU 44 SU 1 LOU 6 FG- GOOD from 51 SU 0 LOU 1 XP- GOOD, GOOD, GOOD SU 0 LOU 3 Total for kicking game: Syracuse 1 Louisville 15 1st rush- 6, 6, 1, 10, 6, 4TD, 16(15), 1, 5(20), 5, 1, 0, -1, 4, 4, 1, 18, 0 , 4, 5, 5, 4 SU 8 LOU 14 1st pass- 6, I, 19, I, 18, -2, 15 SU 3 LOU 4 First Down total: Syracuse 11 Louisville 18 2nd rush- -2, 5(4), 4, 3(4), 6, 0, 2(7), 9(15), 1(6), 7(6), -1, 1, 23(5), 2(5), -1v SU 7 LOU 8 2nd pass- 21(9), I, -4, I, 45, I, I, 4TD SU 4 LOU 3 Second Down total: Syracuse 11 Louisville 11 3rd run- 7(6), 9(1), 11(16), -3, 14TD, 4, 4(3) SU LOU 5 3rd pass- -8, 7(4), I, 6(9), -10, 6(5), I, 29(6), I SU 6 LOU 3 Third Down total: Syracuse 8 Louisville 8 4th run- none 4th pass- none Fourth Down total: none Total for plays from scrimmage: Syracuse 30 Louisville 37 Running plays: Syracuse 17 Louisville 27 Passing plays: Syracuse 13 Lousivi8lle 10 Penalties (not added on to play): SU 7 LOU 1 (penalties by the other team that each team benefited by) Turnovers: SU 2 LOU 0 Total for penalties and turnovers: Syracuse 9 Louisville 1 Total when Louisville had the ball: Syracuse 40 Louisville 53 Overall kicking game total: Syracuse 9 Louisville 21 Overall plays from scrimmage total: Syracuse 53 Louisville 74 Running plays: Syracuse 29 Louisville 37 Passing plays: Syracuse 24 Louisville 37 Overall penalties and turnovers: Syracuse 9 Louisville 5 Game Total: Syracuse 71 Louisville 100 Comments: The kicking game was again a major issue. The kicking team should dominate those plays. We barely won them, 8-6. The Cardinals went 15-1. That gave them huge advantages in field positon. We started our 14 possessions a total of 1,025 yards from the goal line. Louisville started their 14 possessions 871 yards from the goal line. That’s like an extra 154 yards of offense for the Cardinals. Our passing, which has produced one touchdown pass in 5 games, (a 4 yarder vs. Central Michigan). In this game when we dropped back to pass, the result was favorable to Louisville 27 out of 38 times. We ran 62 plays from scrimmage with 21:52 minutes of possession time while Louisville ran 70 plays in 36:50. That means that we got 2.84 plays off per minute and took an average of 21.16 seconds to get a play off. Louisville got off only 1.90 plays per minute. It took them an average of 31:57 to get a play off. But, because they were more efficient in gaining ayrds and first downs, they got off 8 more plays than we did. The opposition has run 21 more successful kicking plays than we have: 4 more successful running plays and 39 more successful passing plays. We are +3 in turnovers and penalties, (not tacked onto the play). That’s really quite a difference.
