If we're making the argument that a team needs to be built similar to the '03 team to win it all, we're in trouble simply because the PG position is not close. Center is also a question mark right now, we don't have a Carmelo Anthony, and we lack length at SG except for when we put a Frosh there. In the aggregate, however, we could match the production of that team and I think our rebounding could be better. If Joesph develops like we need him to, defense is the next biggest question. Coleman, if he stays healthy, is more valuable than Forth. He has a wide body for screens and he's more versatile. Forth's only advantage is probably the blocks he got just from being 7 feet tall and standing straight up. Roberson could certainly match Warrick's sophomore production, minute-for-minute. I don't think he'll be the energizer that Hakim was, or quite as good defensively, but it's close enough. The biggest difference is that Roberson likely won't get the start. McCullough is our best bet to be Carmelo. It seemed like he was finally 'getting it' just before his injury, so if he maintains that mentality, he could turn in a special season (abbreviated as it may be). I highly doubt it will be Carmelo-esque, however. Gbinije doesn't really have a player from '03 that he'd compare well to. Duany is the de facto comparison, but they play different positions and have/will have different roles. For what it's worth, Gbinije leads in every measure except 'heart.' That's not to say Gbinije doesn't have heart, it's just that Duany's competitiveness and hustle was astronomical. Cooney, although he plays SG, is our GMac. GMac gets the advantage if not simply for the ice constantly coursing through his veins, but statistically, Senior Cooney is/will be greater than or equal to freshman GMac. GMac ran the offense very well though, which Cooney won't be doing. I guess this leaves Joesph matched up with Edelin. I have no idea what player Joseph is going to become. Hopefully, and rightfully, he should be better as a sophomore than freshman Edelin was. We'll have to wait and see. Malachi is Pace I think. He should be a better scoring punch and will hopefully match the defensive level. Howard is also Pace. Howard's minutes could be pretty limited, though, so it might not matter. Obokoh and/or Diagne are McNeil. McNeil's ability to punch a ball 6 rows up is once in a lifetime type stuff, but theoretically, Diagne or Obokoh should be able to come in, swing violently at everything that moves, and foul out in 5 minutes. BJ's left over without a match. I don't know what all of this means, if anything, but there it is from my perspective.
