With last night's court storming Indiana has been passed by Louisville IMO in the Blue Bloods group

In 2003, Syracuse had 0 NCs and hasn't been to a Final Four since 1996 and only had 2 more previously. We weren't as established then where we are now. If in 2003, Syracuse had 4 NCs and had a good history then I would called out that court storming in 2003.

We we a better program than Pittsburgh or no?

Sadly I got sucked into that 2007 one even though I didn't want to storm. It was really done to say what we thought was ticket punching win against Georgetown and a goodbye to Terrence Roberts, Mookie Watkins, Demetrius Nichols.

Even more embarrassing is I still see myself on this video. I won't identify myself though.

If we are unbeaten when we play at duke and if we were to lose, I don't think they would storm the court.

Duke fans will never storm the court again as long as Coach K is there. He has spoken out against the practice on numerous occasions citing player safety.

Honestly, tying "blue blood" or "elite" status to fan behavior is pointless. If that were the standard, we'd never have a shot at either.

Why do people get so bent out of shape about a decision made by a group of (drunk) college students that are just looking to have a good time? People put way too much thought into this. You go to college to get an education and make memories. If storming the court is something you want to do, enjoy yourself as long as no one gets hurt. If you think storming the court is beneath your program, don't participate.

I copied and pasted these comments and the USAToday link because they express my feelings better than I probably can.
I've never understood why people think there should be rules and guidelines for court storming. Let the kids enjoy themselves - why should you be embarrassed because they do. Save that for students who behave like thugs and d-bags.
We ask the students to be pumped up, involved, loud, boisterous and generally act like crazy college kids but then tell them to tone it down when they want to celebrate at the end.

I wish I could like this a hundred times! Let these people storm whenever they feel like it.. Too proud? Then sit in your seat with your hands folded on your lap through out the game. Why applaud and get excited at all? After all we are the best team ever..

In 2003, we were a better program than Pitt, but the gap wasn't that huge. We had been a contender, but had 0 NCs and were coming off an NIT season and Pitt was #2. Syracuse 2003's resume is not Syracuse 2013's resume. Rushing the floor that night against Pitt wasn't that big a deal because we weren't where we are now. Kinda like Florida 2013 or UConn 2013 are different programs than there were in 2003. National Championships elevate your program. If Syracuse had numerous NCAA championships in its past and considered itself a top 5 program then it shouldn't rush the court against programs beneath them even if they are top 5 and undefeated.

I agree neither would Kentucky, North Carolina, or Louisville fans. In 2010, when were #1 and played the last ever game at Freedom Hall and lost to Louisville in a mediocre year for them they didn't storm the court and they beat #1 and were closing their iconic home down. I have no problem with court storming, but the elite programs shouldn't rush the court/field. Unless its a non-elite team pulling a true major upset, rivalry game with an unbelievable ending. I just hope Syracuse fans never rush the basketball court again because it means we expect to win whatever game we are playing.

Alsacs, you make great posts but I just don't get you here.

And its not necessarily whether a court storm is called for a not. I respect the opinion that court storming standards need to be met - I am more in the other group in saying if we beat a good team and the kids are happy have at it.

But I just dont get how a court storming by students affects where a program stands. Perhaps kids at some schools are more enthusiastic and have different views on storming.

If we used fan sentiment to measure program status, UConn would still be relevant and a future powerhouse.

I would call it fan arrogance if that term works. As a Syracuse fan I don't think beating ANYBODY at the Carrier Dome warrants our students going on the court to celebrate the win. My reasoning is that our program has become so successful that even in a down year we should expect to beat anybody at any time. Going on the court celebrating to me is saying we didn't expect to win and we are celebrating an upset win. When you climb on the mountain you become more elitist, and unless we had a midcourt shot to beat an arch-rival at the Dome I honestly see no reason to ever storm the court. As I said during my time as a student kids wanted to storm in 2006 when we beat Manhattan for crying out loud. Kids can be happy all they want, but sadly perception of how you behave does get established nationally by what people see. I see it like this a New England Patriots or New York Yankees fan isn't going to celebrate an AFC East or AL East title, hell they may not celebrate an AL pennant or AFC title they will only celebrate a Super Bowl title or World Series title. The elite of elite in college sports shouldn't rush the floor/field unless its a crazy ending or huge win over a rival. You should expect to win, Indiana rushing the court says to me the program has fallen from expecting to win and being a elitist program to being a very good program and that expectations are not winning a NC but its beating an undefeated top 3 team at home when their home court advantage should win them most games anyway.

There are so many rules and regulations and business aspects of college basketball to worry about already, just let kids have some fun.

Trying to regulate how college kids enjoy themselves by running onto a court to share an experience with a team is worrying way too much.

Good for the IU kids. That was a huge win for their team.

Whenever this perennial thread is resurrected my POV is always the same.
Its college...let the kids have fun...let's not take ourselves too seriously.

While I may want program to be elite, I never want the program or myself to be elitist.

Alsacs, I am almost always on board with your posts but I really have to disagree on this one. I just feel that regulating or limiting fan behavior has no place unless the behavior is dangerous, illegal or inhibits what other fans do.

If fans want to storm the court - let them.
If fans want to stand and clap at the start of the game or 2nd half - let them.
If fans want to do the wave - let them

Fair enough I respect your opinion, and we can agree disagree. I respect posts like this my opinion isn't the end all be all its just my opinion. When things are subjective nobody can tell anyone else how to think I have just stated my opinion.
