Would love to read a story about how Ron Thompson went from a top tight end recruit, to a potential career ending hip injury, to now potentially being our best D-line player. I remember when Rahme used to cover our football program he used to produce great individual stories. Havent seen much since... so if youre listening PS, give us a little insight into a guy like Ron Thompson

I think Bud was working on a piece but put it on hold when he decided SU should just drop football.

Funny story, Daoust once told me that there was a vicious battle over which side of the ball was going to get Ron Thompson when he came to Syracuse. Shafer, who was the DC at the time and Hackett, the OC at the time pled their case to Marrone, who ultimately felt that he would be best suited at TE. Defensive side of the ball was very disappointed. When Shafer took over, the move was made almost immediately. Ron is a very talented young man.

I believe that there is an issue with player access. The media is only allowed access to the players for interviews at certain times. Also I hear that Ron doesn't like to do interviews.

I think the PS really burned some bridges and that has led to a significant reduction in access. All of the negative articles and the way the McDonald situation was handled surely didn't earn them any good will.

I think that McAlli$ter, the writer for $cout has really made a positive inroads with the current staff. He seems to have been granted access that I haven't seen a subscription service granted before. Has been able to hold an interview with Shafer this year and so on...

You misunderstood. There are structured times when the media has access to players.

Coaches and players don't have the same criteria. It's been a couple of years since I had a direct link to this, but in 2011, you had to request what players you wanted to talk to beforehand in a once-a-week availability session. That was in-season. There's limited access to players in the off-season.

If they really wanted to burn bridges, they'd try to talk to players without going through SU Athletics. The Communications staff has way more control than you realize.

Sorry, was responding to the original post, not Legacy's. Appreciate the info though. Definitely didn't know how it works.
