Would you like to play Rutgers?

Sad Jim Carrey GIF

Your AD recently talked about games with PSU and an unnamed Big Ten School. Some are speculating it could be us. What do you think?
Serious reaction is hell no. Your coach's history of trying to injure players at the end of games when losing is reprehensible. And, I wouldn't risk it. I don't trust him. I have no respect for that POS.

If we're adding Penn St., it also makes sense to add an easy win in our prime recruiting area. Sounds good.

Selfishly, I have been hoping it happens. Easy road trip for me since I only live about an hour away from Rutgers.

Yes. If we were in a conference together we would be each other's biggest and most hated rival and we would be better for it.

I'm like 30 mins from SHT stadium.

Big nope for me.

Cuse wins, its expected. We lose, its a disaster. Already reestablishing the foothold in NJ, seems redundant.

Also, if Fran wants in the playoff and we want to be serious, we need harder OOC opponents. A win vs a 5-7 Rutgers with 3 P4 wins ain't gonna do it to get into the Top 12.

Only if it is a conference game.

Kidding aside I want to play BC, UConn, Army, Rutgers, Temple, Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland, Navy as much as possible.

I wouldn't mind an OOC 10 year rotation of:

P4: Notre Dame, Penn State, West Virginia, Maryland, Rutgers
G6: UConn, Army, Temple, Navy, UMass, Buffalo, Delaware, Tulane, UConn, Temple.

That gives us over a 10 year period, 30 different teams played. There is enough variety in the ACC to keep the OOC Northeastern.

Why give a lesser a leg up. SU has nothing to gain by playing RU. Fran doesn’t need that game to recruit (own) NJ. It has nothing but potential downside for SU. You lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas.

While I think it would be nice to have a more steady game with somewhat of a "local rival", I don't think we gain much by playing Rutgers in general. We can recruit well in NJ already. It may only help recruiting more in NJ if we were to make it an annual game and I don't think we want that. The public perception of us playing Rutgers every year doesn't do anything positive for us. And while not good, they aren't quite as bad as the perception. And for those claiming automatic W that hasn't been the case. But I feel we certainly are much more likely to win against them than lose to them in the Fran Brown area. I'd rather play a team like WVU more frequently, which would be another team we have history with.

But I wouldn't be opposed to playing one game against them in the near future as I would like to play them and have the last game against them as a W. The recent history doesn't sit well with me. And I think that would be the result in the Fran Brown era. Its probably a good move to play them now that we are good again, and remind everyone that we are surely the better program.

Results vs Rutgers since 2000.

Yes. IDC what the rest on this board say. I want a rival. Any rival.

Boston College hasn't become that. Pitt has other, bigger rivalries. We've got Rutgers and Uconn. I need something with disdain and hatred.

And schedule wise, I like playing a very solid team every season but it shouldn't be two REALLY good teams like in 2025. And it would be wonderful if it wasn't a team we are likely to lose to probably 2 out of 3 times, or maybe even 3 out of 4 times. And that is probably the case with PSU and ND unfortunately, but we will see. Playing a program with the talent level like Rutgers makes sense if you are playing another very difficult out of conference game that season.

Future OOC P4 opponents:

2025 ND and Tenn
2026 ND
2027 PSU
2028 PSU
2029 ND

2034 ND
2037 ND

absolutely Al, not neccessarily every year but a regional rivalry game every few years makes sense. Plus easy trip for both fan bases and I get to see my NY/NJ family for a fun event. Bring it on. Good to hear from you Al, hope life is well and you enjoy the season.

There’s any number of Big ten teams I’d pick over Rutgers. If we’re doing this for recruiting, I mean Maryland is right there.
