Lose by 33 to Duke. Worst defense at any level ever played. Time to look at coach Q if there is any desire to become relevant.

In the limited amount of time I have watched the SU women play over the last few years, that 2-3 defense they play is absolutely atrocious. This might sound sexist but it is not meant to be: women basketball players are not nearly as long, athletic or agile as men basketball players. The physical skills needed to play an effective zone defense, especially if it is going to be your primary defense, just aren't there in the women's game. But for some reason, Q hasn't realized this in all the time he's been here.

The problem with women's basketball is there's only enough real talent for a few teams. A Men's game between a top 25 team and a top 5 team could turn out to be a good game and a real threat to the favorite. Women's hoops might as well skip to the final four since going in each year you pretty much know who will be there.

Unfortunately this was the worst game they've played so far this year. You're not going to beat the #3 ranked team in the country shooting 28% when they're hitting 56% of their shots. Our ladies were outscored 56-20 in the paint, and that was because of the 38 3-pt shots they launched, making 8 of them. That tells me the ball wasn't moving/being shared because there was too much settling for the outside shot. Yes I'd say Duke is the better team but I don't think they beat Syracuse by 33 points every time they play them.

To normaliswear's point, yes there is only enough top talent and those players go to Connecticut, Stanford, Tennessee, Baylor, and to Notre Dame, North Carolina, Maryland, and Duke in the ACC. I count 9 former mcdonald's/parade high school all-americans on Duke's roster. To my knowledge Syracuse has two in Brittney Sykes and Brianna Butler. While the talent as a whole in women's basketball continues to get better and the athleticism is far better than when I first started watching the women's game 30 years ago, you don't have the parity yet across the board as in the men's game.

Lastly our ladies won't win if Brianna and Brittney shoot a combined 9-for-26 as they did last night. The offense has to get them better looks at the basket and I'd like to see them both get to the rim more, draw fouls. They have the ability to do it. Brittney especially has to get untracked. As I said, this was their worst game this season to date. In the other losses at Iowa, at Arizona State, and at North Carolina State, all who were ranked in the top 25 when they beat Syracuse, our ladies held the lead late in those games but didn't finish in the closing minutes to win. Had we finished, the record would be 14-1 instead of 11-4. Still a lot of season left. I remain optimistic.

The defense has to take away the hot hand, #32 Trica Liston was torching them in the first half. Every time she got the ball there were no defenders within 8 feet. She was the big difference in the first half. She also had a lot of room to make 3 passes that led to buckets.

When SU suffered their first loss of the season to Iowa Melissa Dixon killed them throughout the game. She ended up making 7 of 11 three pointers and nailed a couple in the stretch run at a time of the game where you would have thought a defender would have been in her face.

In both games I'm screaming tag the shooter.

The 2nd half of the game was a layup line for Duke.

Saw Breanna Stewart's dad taking in the game wearing a Texas Longhorn sweatshirt.

If more people cared about the womans Bball team Q probably would have been fired already. In that regard hes lucky that 2% of the overall fanbase follows the program. That being said it appears he keeps brining in good recruiting classes with very little to show for it, might be time to either make a move or put him on notice.

I think people who think we have to keep playing zone post JB because it's our "brand" need to watch the women's team more.

Couldn't agree more regarding the zone and women's basketball.

Q is an above average recruiter and a horrible game day coach who has continually underachieved given the decent talent he has brought in. He needs to be fired.

A decent coach could take this team to a Sweet 16. Would love to see Syracuse hire Shea Ralph from Connecticut. If we want to be a player in every sport we sponsor, then we should emulate the best program in that sport for the last 20 years.

It's nice a few more people are becoming aware of the women's game and voicing their opinion. I feel like I have been a voice in the wilderness the last few years as, although I have not posted on this forum I have contacted the athletic dept. to voice my concerns. As NKR 1978 said Q is an above average recruiter but a poor game coach. I feel it goes beyond that. His courtside demeanor is an embarresment, he seems to degrade much of his talent. Sykes the last 3 games has been terrible. Missing easy shots and many TO. The same can be said for the last Mc AA who seemed to get worse each year. These girls, in my mind, could be competitive with most any team in the country with the proper coaching. PS one girl could be really great if Q would see she got into a little better condition.

Q and Gross are tight as well, he's done OK here. They will not fire him

You're right. I just have never understood why SU tolerates such mediocrity from its women's basketball team. It's the one women's college sport that registers at all in the sports world. Mariana Washington to the creepy looking guy who replaced her to Q - just a stream of bad coaches for decades. At least Q brings some talent and has made a couple tournaments but it is still a joke.

You would be referring to Marianna Freeman who came here from national power Iowa. The other Keith Cieplicki who left Vermont.

Gross and Q are tight is the only reason I can think. People look at the WBB team making the NCAA Tournament and think that's a great year. Most don't realize that the talent is better than the results and from what I've heard, Q's style really wears on the players. They seem ready for the season to end when March rolls around.

I don't go to the games, and I don't watch most of them either. But if you get rid of Q who can you get that can bring in even close to the talent that he has? It's incredibly impressive the recruiting classes he's gotten. A new coach would probably be better at game decisions and overall coaching, but struggle to recruit. As already said woman's basketball is about having top talent. Playing the #3 team only drew 1100 fans. How can anybody recruit with that?

I watched the second half. Terrible defense and they couldnt throw it into the ocean

He still needs a dominant point guard. Never had one. I dont consider erica morrow a point guard or a dominant player. He has never had that and desperately needs one. That and a true low post scorer.

They had an excellent low post player in Kayla Alexander who graduated last year. Their only current center, Shakeya Leary will be graduating. She averages almost 10 points and 9 rebounds but only plays less than 22 minutes a game - conditioning?? What's weird is they have only 3 forwards and one center yet 11 guards on their roster and the starting 5 is comprised of 4 guards and 1 center. Even weirder they play zone when on the surface you'd think that a 4 guard lineup should traditionally be quicker than long like the most effective zones would be. I usually go to a few games a year but haven't made one this year yet - I've got to make some.
