SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Head women's soccer coach Phil Wheddon has announced that Kelly Lawrence has joined his staff as an assistant coach. Lawrence comes to Syracuse from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.

"I'm thrilled to have Kelly join our staff," Wheddon said. "She will be a role model for our players. She brings with her a wealth of experience."

At Monmouth, Lawrence's duties included coaching primarily the defensive back line, recruiting, assisting in all areas of team performance and handling day-to-day operations of the team. She helped guide the Hawks to back-to-back MAAC regular-season championships in 2013 and 2014. Monmouth also won the 2013 conference tournament title to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament where it faced Penn State in the first round.

In 2013, Lawrence led a defensive line that ranked first in the nation in shutout percentage (.762), fourth in goals-against average (0.42) and fifth winning percentage (.857).

Lawrence spent seven years as a member of the English national team. She was a four-year starter at Indiana University and became the only player in program history to earn All-Big Ten honors all four years. In addition, she was a three-time all-region honoree. Lawrence was on the Mac Herman Watch List in 2008. After graduating, she took part in preseason camp for Women's Professional Soccer's St. Louis Athletica club and won two WPSL national championships with Boston in 2010 and Orange County in 2011.

Lawrence started her coaching career as a student assistant coach at Indiana. She holds the NSCAA Premier, Advanced and National coaching licenses and NSCAA goalkeeper level I and II diplomas.

Lawrence earned her bachelor's degree in arts, humanities, kinesiology and coaching from Indiana University in 2010.
