by trying to burn the town down

If the school really cared that much, or the city did, they would have self imposed a ban of at least one forfeit by now to send a message.

They don't care, they actually kind of welcome it. At this point there is no other explanation. This was the least surprising story of the weekend.

Bunch of weirdos.

Should open a discount furniture store in Morgantown

Sad and embarrassing. Why would you forfeit the game and cost all those players and coaches that worked so hard for a huge win? You criminally prosecute those dumb *cks who participated in any way and kick them out of school. They go back to Long Island and NJ and the problem is solved.

That's the culture there. In the 80's WVU would win a big game and students would break into the stadium and drag the field goal posts down the bar street. They also had a street flooded and they surfed down it. Having things thrown on the field has been a common occurrence there for as long as anyone can remember.

There is absolutely nothing to do in Morgantown but drink excessively and raise hell. It's just funny to see the guys in power complain about it when they were causing the same damage when they were students.

The positive of all this is that it truly is a home field advantage in Milan Puskar Stadium on game day. The down side (for WVU) is this type of behavior getting more attention will continue to attract those same type of kids to attend the school so they can riot in the streets and take it further. The question is, does WVU care more about their academic perception or their football prestige? I'm guessing it's more likely the latter regardless of what that dbag Gordon Gee projects.

That's exactly how it should be done. The team that works their butts off (even those wacky backwoods mother-'ers) shouldn't have to give back victories because their fans are classless dumb criminal nut jobs.

Prosecute the dirtbags responsible, kick them out of college (those that are actually enrolled) and let the good people keep celebrating the right way. The only way I would entertain giving back victories would be in the football team and/or staff were the ones leading the riots.

I don't think this kid got into any other schools. (Apologies for the foul language in the picture but it really hammers home the point of this thread)

Where are the parents? These thugs must come from broken homes without any real parenting. I just hope the good WVU students will speak out against this senseless violence and destruction.

Have to wonder if the glorification of violence in NASCAR and in country music perpetuates these events. And something about the clothes with the Northface jackets, college t-shirts and backwards hats.

The violence in Morgantown and Keene this weekend should be a wakeup call to the community.

Gordon Gee... going from one joke of a school of "higher learning" to another.

Have they at least figured out that they need make out with their cousins on the couch, before they burn it?

That's why WVU is West Virginia's College Team

Most of these antics aren't being perpetrated by the locals or in many cases, people from West Virginia at all. Currently in my third year at WVU, and most of the people I see involved in this kind of garbage are Jersey kids that couldn't get into any other regional school. AND they act like it: the dregs congregate and raise hell, the reputation for this ridiculousness continues; wash-rinse-repeat. The locals and WV natives I know are absolutely mortified. I've been in the WV student section, and most of the people throwing stuff and being outrageous aren't from here.

Just my observations as a lifelong Cuse fan and native living in Morgantown. Meanwhile, I just received another email about it from Gee...

While this behavior is ridiculous, dangerous and reprehensible wherever it may occur, it doesn't occur only in Morgantown, WV at WVU. Its mentioned about WVU and used to reinforce stereotypes like most of the posts in this thread, but it does occur in many other places.

It actually happens at Michigan State as often as it does at WVU.
Michigan State fans rioted after beating Ohio State for the B1G title last year in December 2013 -- setting 57 fires, rioting and flipping cars.

Michigan State fans rioted, burned couches and caused extensive property damage in Feb. 2013 after MSU lost to Indiana in basketball. The article I've linked mentions also a 2008 riot involving 3,000 to 4,000 people causing $150,000 in property damage and a 1999 riot after MSU lost to Duke in the Final Four.

University of Minnesota fans rioted after losing in the Frozen Four in 2013 setting fires, damaging cars and requiring hundreds of police in riot gear to use tear gas to disburse them. The article references 2003 riots that were much worse after Minnesota won the Frozen Four with torched cars and looted stores.

Happened in Manhattan, Kansas after K State v. Kansas football games in 1984 with 8,000 fans overturning cars, uprooting street signs, smashing windows and looting and again in 1986 with 6,000 rioters and cars being torched and rolled over and it was said that nearly every single building in Aggieville had its windows smashed out.

There was rioting on Marshall Street at SU in 2003 after we won the championship with fires being set and objects thrown at riot police who were there to keep control.

Happens in the pros too:
L.A. Lakers fans rioted after winning the NBA finals in 2010 setting 19 fires, jumping on and damaging vehicles, torching cars, beating people, and hurling bottles and rocks at responding police officers.

Lakers fans did it the year before too, setting fires, damaging vehicles, looting stores, attacking a taxi and other vehicles and even setting fire to one police car and damaging another.

Happens outside the US frequently too:
Vancouver Canucks fans rioted in 2011 after losing the Stanley Cup finals with fans burning 17 cars, 2 police cars and a fire truck, looting stores, Police finally got control with use of tear gas, pepper spray, police dogs and batons.

In fact, there's a whole Wikipedia site about sports riots.
