gave up .27 more per play than we gained this year.

for 09 and 11, difference was .32

pretty close. good job getting to 6-6 considering that they were 9-15 in 09 and 11. Makes more sense to compare to those years, I think.

i know yards per play doesn't mean everything and I know that clemson and FSU were going to be losses even if they didn't blow up the yards per play allowed. but still

getting 5 more plays than our opponents meant a lot. +9 turnovers in Hunt games not against FSU and Clemson (aka in hunt games where we had a prayer).

+6 in Hunt games against real opponents not named FSU or Clemson or Wagner

i think that matters more than tempo - going fast should increase the other team's number of plays too.

getting to a bowl with bad special teams and worse yards per play than your opponents is weirdly impressive

Run the ball, stop the run.

6 wins, 5 of 6 games net rushing over 200 yds, average of 239 rushing.

On defense 5 of 6 games 130 yds or less. Average yds allowed, 102.

In the losses in 5 of 6 SU rushed for less than 150 yds, average of 148. On defense 4 of 6 over 150, average of 176.

What is very frustrating is that in two losses, PSU and Pitt, the run defense was great and held them both to less than 100 yds (PSU 57 and Pitt 21) and still lost.

Still hard to believe they lost a game where they gave up only 239 yds total.

Had they not won Saturday, it would be frustrating after watching Funderburk make that catch Saturday, and not making the one in the end zone the previous week. The pieces are starting to come together, get a bowl game some more recruits, watch some of the young OL grow up, Syracuse Football will be fun again.

At the risk of offending some people, last year was fun for the most part.

It was fun this year - at least for me.

And won the turnover battle. (and didn't have any turnovers).

Pitt had 3 drives that accounted for 87% of their yards, and turned each into points.

One missed XP... losing in OT would have been somewhat easier to handle.

Sorry everyone thinks I didn't enjoy the past 2 seasons, because I did, my comment was meant to indicate that the future is very bright. My feeling is we are on the road to another great upswing in the program, happened when Ben came, again when Mac came, and now with Doug, and Scott it is happening again.

Wouldn't say special teams have been bad:

Blocked some kicks
Didn't give up any TDs
Missed some kicks

I'd say we were better than last year.

Every year is fun when you have a head coach with a sense of what he is suppose to be doing, and players buying in to the program. That's half the battle. The other half is assembling the top grade talent to win the big games
