I didn’t realize it but our basement window had opened with the force of the wind and snow. I went down to get laundry from the dryer and saw water pouring from a pipe in the basement. It was freezing and snowing through the open window down there. I called the local Ace hardware to ask what I could do to stop it and they said they’d help me if I hurried because they were closing. The car was buried and I was forced to walk about a mile in that blizzard. The owner was in his car ready to leave. He thankfully reopened the store and gave me a temporary type sleeve thing to try to stop the water and all sorts of heavy tape etc.My eldest son who was home from college had walked with me and helped me. I turned off the water and put the sleeve type thing on the pipe. It held till we could get someone to fix it on Monday. What a mess cleaning up the basement floor and shoveling around the window outside so I was able to get it closed and put duct tape inside to make sure it kept closed. Thank heavens for Ace hardware. Not a good day.
