You have to be kidding...

Devo auditioning for a radio show? Has anyone ever heard him string together two sentences that make sense? I wish I were in Syracuse to listen to this.

Well, I remember right after he left SU, before the draft, there was something like a 12 minute interview that syracuse.com posted on their website. I remember posting at the time how surprised I was by how soft-spoken, articulate, and thoughtful he sounded--totally the opposite of his extreme look and on-court demeanor.

Not saying that he'd make a good radio guy, but I think he's more reasonably well spoken than many might expect.

I don't know, sometimes those types of people make for really entertaining radio.

cto- if you go to espnradio.com and click the syracuse station you can listen to him on Fridays, I think around 6pm east coast. He has been on for a few weeks now I think. He isnt that bad. They dont just sit and talk sports tho, I think they mainly do interviews with former SU players and coaches.

Was driving through DC one day and stumbled into John Thompson's show. It was truly horrible, and 15 minutes of my life I will never get back. Frequent pauses in dead radio time that seemed to be (I kid you not) at least 5 or more seconds. And when he did speak, I found myself wishing for the previous 5 seconds.

I too remember that interview and I had the same reaction. He came across as the total opposite of his public perception.

The Jim Rome approach. Rome does pauses of 7 or 8 seconds on a regular basis. I'm sure he's much more dynamic than JT2 when he's actually talking, but he does pause for loooong periods.

I'd be willing to bet Romes pauses are purposeful. For JT me thinks not so much...

Jim Rome is awful too. His interviews are good, but everything else is horrible.

When I was running Orange/Nation back in the day, the two worst interviewees IMO, by a wide margin, were Melo and Devo. It was painful trying to get either of these guys to say anything other than "yup" or "nope". Both of these guys gave off the impression that they would rather be anywhere in the world other than talking to me (can't say I blamed them though). Best interviewee was Billy Edelin. Very engaging and likable kid, which made it difficult to understand his off-court issues since he came across as so polished and composed.

Devo was one of our best players of the decade. He had the media and public scrutiny magnified on him because no one outside the Orange fans liked him, and even weaker Orange fans fell influence to the hate.

He did some bad stuff, but this kid was intelligent, well spoken (if you've ever heard him ...actually speak)...and was a damn good basketball player.

The kid was the ONLY player we ever had who talked a lot of and back it up nearly if not every time.

Indeed. His value is often understated. McDAA who really only played 3 years, due to injury in his junior year. Yet he scored way more points than both Brandon and Scoop, had a better FG% than MCW and a better career 3PT% average than all of them. Some folks here cut him very little slack.

Great post. 100%. Sometimes I think there are people here who don't like players with balls.

i have listened to him a few times and is surprisingly pretty good, and entertaining.

and didn't play a lick of defense

I think Devo might be more controversial on this board than declaring Melo a Top 5 NBA player. Ill take a guy like Devo on this team any day of the week. One of my favorite players to ever come through Cuse.

Only 7 or 8 Boeheim-era guards can't claim that. Not exactly a high bar.

And it's more than a little misleading to say that Devendorf only played three years due to injury. He left a season on the table, and it wasn't because of the ACL.
