So many things to say and think about this debacle, and I call it a debacle despite the fact that we won. -Carlos cannot play major minutes on this team. He is not good enough. His stretch of giving up a three-pointer, smoking two free throws, running into a dribbler sending him to the line and then arguing about it was as bad as it gets and nearly handed them the game. In two out of three games, he has had a chance to ice the game at the line and hasn’t even come close. We have to try something different whether it is putting JJ at the one and starting Choppa at the two or starting Taylor at the two. As I said in the game thread, Carlos has made me long for Frank Howard, which is something I never thought I would ever say. -A leopard does not change his spots. Bell was absolutely hunted and humiliated on defense. He clanked a three-pointer off the side of the backboard and jogged back, which cost us a basket. To his credit Red gave him some significant minutes on the bench. -But Red did absolutely nothing to adjust when Bell was getting toasted. he went way too long with Carlos. We had absolutely no rim protection at all. i’m not a big McLeod fan, but he does offer some rim protection, and given the fact that the big white stiff from Youngstown State wasn’t doing anything Wouldn’t it have made sense to bring in McLeod to offer some assistance to all the driving they were doing? At the same time it also would have given Eddie a breather. -Eddie is pretty much as advertised. Have to say that the transfers are pretty underwhelming. -On the bright side, Donnie was excellent for the most part, even though he was toasted on that huge baseline drive. But he was athletic, rebounded well, took care of the ball and had some big baskets. He plays with confidence and enthusiasm and is absolutely engaged. Likewise, Choppa was huge hitting that open three after a great catch. I loved how confident he looked at the line in a big spot. I also admire his willingness to go to the floor, even though his defense is clearly a work in progress. -JJ was obviously unstoppable, but can you imagine being the Youngstown coach and looking at his players in the lock room when you made absolutely no adjustment to take the ball out of JJ‘s hands and make somebody else beat you? You couldn’t stop a kid who was only going to shoot with his right hand? Just an awful job of coaching.
