Admittedly he was not a good head coach. But all of Marrones success was mostly done with GRobs recruits. Admittedly St. Doug came in and got way more out of those players than Robinson ever did.

But the idea that the program was in shambles is just wrong. Marrones first team  arguably should’ve made a bowl game. They easily should have beaten Minnesota in his first game. Lost in overtime thanks to a bad decision by Paulus. They were beating Louisville late and punted the ball to the best punt returner in the country and he returned it for a touchdown.

2010 they go to the Pinstripe Biwl and finish 8-4. 2011 they are 5-2 after seven games  and lose out!!  Never understood what happened that season.

2012 they were back in the Pinstripe and are 8-4 again. Doug leaves and I would suggest the cupboard was a lot more bare when Schaffer took over. GRob couldn’t coach up his players and Marrone could. But a program that arguably could’ve made four straight bowl game in the preceding fours years after GRob doesn’t indicate the program was in shambles. Those Marrone teams that didn’t make bowls were coached by Marrone not GRob so the problems were Doug’s.

Go back and look at those rosters. The best players were all recruited during Robinsons  tenure.
