So VPI beats FSU and an FCS, then gets beat by an 0-3 G5 team and is ranked. SU beats FSU and an FCS and 2 G5 teams, and is not ranked. After 4 weeks you should be voting based on performance and not preseason expectations, but these SIDs who rank these teams for their coaches don't watch the games and/or are lazy.

I get your logic, and it makes sense.

However, coaches aren’t putting that level of analysis into the back end of a week 4 poll

Yup. I don’t remember for sure, but I have to imagine we were close in 2011 when we hammered WVU to improve to 5-2.

We got to 6-2 in 2010 too.

They lost 14 spots and they were knocked out of the other poll. They were not ready for ODUs superhuman backup. Just like we weren't ready for Washington's first pass yesterday. They're a well-coached team. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. If they beat Duke, they deserve consideration. If not, maybe they have a shot at the Independence Bowl.
