Recapping a busy off season of player transfers and coaching moves

New Digs

Nick Mariano
Old School: UMass
New School: Syracuse

Tough offseason for the Minutemen, who after losing their starting goalie (Oliveri) also lost their top scorer. Mariano, a lefty attackman, started all 28 games in his two seasons at UMass, combining for 81 points (51 goals, 30 assists). Syracuse lost five of its top six scorers from 2015.

One new gig that has our board talking is that Adam Ghitelman, the goalie of our 2011 Champions, has been hired as the HC at Southern Cal. It's a club, but it makes us wonder if something is going on behind the scenes.

In other notable UVa alum coaching moves, Ben Rubeor has been hired as the HC at Loyola Blakefield School in Towson and John Christmas has been hired as the HC at de la Salle HS in Concord, CA, in the Bay Area.

Couple of things at work here, I guess. He comes across as being a bit higher visibility than it seems many clubs hire. There was some buzz a while ago about USC-w and more Pac-12 schools starting men's programs (assuming Title IX concerns can be covered). Supposedly the USC-w Athletic Department wants it to happen. We're all wondering if this could be some sort of signal?
