Colgate Gameday...

Wasn’t able to watch…

What happened in the second that was a dirty cheap shot?

also seem after that horrible stand away from ur guy goal by kol i didn’t see him in there. Either got hurt or took him out as cacameo came in

also i’ve been wondering and grant think be far half baked idea in my head. But the man down unit of just random non starters could be cause it’s tactic for maryland not being able to game plan vs who really will be in there? Like ok let’s take our chances our offense should score enough for us to least win. Ya know kinda like a fake out. Cause man down looks all disconbobled at times even tho colgate was 2-8.

i like beck on man down he was there last year and did well. Don’t think fretirgo is bad either but the other guys kinda look lost at times not sure what to do.

Schmitt maybe?

Ya he isn't seeing much time at LSM so I would definitely approach him about playing short. You could see about Stevens and English getting more run at SSDM but not sure that's really a long term solution. Spallina has looked pretty good and Kempney has the physical attributes but your down two solid SSDM's before you even hit the first top 10 school in the sched, not great.

Prodigy goalie the only thing that really left them in it. Literally every offensive possession where we didn’t turn it over stupidly ended in a quality look. They were dominant on that end and it’s a miracle we only scored 17.

No problem at all with keeping starters in. Colgate O was getting quality looks as well and it always felt like they were in striking distance if we got a dumb penalty or something like that. I guess maybe with two mins left but at that point who gives a crap. We were killing clock anyways. End of Denver Hopkins is shameful coaching, not our choices with personnel in a tense game. D still needs some work but great game from Figueras and the long pole unit. Wright maybe the one negative with those bonehead penalties. In the end despite the slop an overall good showing. That’s how a real contender disposes of a Cinderella team in February

Another player I haven’t seen that I thought I would is Chuck Kuczynski .. any word on him?

Random thoughts

-Spallina is on one right now. Very composed and still has a flair for the dramatic. Probably could have had a few more goals tonight but season is still early. He’s exceeding very high expectations right now.
-Nice to see Hiltz and Thomson have breakout games after quiet debuts. Thomson reminded me of why I like him so much, he has such a unique skill set. Hiltz has maybe the purest shooting motion known to man.
-quiet days from English and Stevens. That’s okay. When this offense is at its best I think guys are trading off big games. Makes guarding this team that much more difficult.
-Leo might be my second favor player on offense right now. He looks like a totally different guy this season.
-Will coaches replace Kellogg for Birtwistle on man up when he’s back? Crazy to think the offense has looked this good and still has yet to add a potential 30 goal scorer to the mix.

-This was not a good faceoff group they faced tonight, but Kohn and Mullen continued to impress. Love having a fogo that can be a threat in transition. They will have stiffer tests but I think they’ll be able to hold their own against better fogos. Both are so strong and athletic.

-defense was not great tonight.
-groundballs. So many over run grounders. I know it was a frenetic game but players could have put an end to scoring opportunities if they just picked up the ball in front of them. Tyson Bomberry needs to come back as a volunteer coach and just teach this skill.
-clearing was horrendous. Not surprised as Colgate went blitzkrieg bop out there and SU had one day to prepare for it, but it was still totally unacceptable. That needs to be the main focus for the week going forward. Odierna is supposed to be a clearing whisperer, he needs to show that now.
-penalties are becoming a huge issue. This game lost its head a bit but I think they had five in the last game. That needs to stop. Can’t let teams like Hopkins or Virginia or Duke have 5-7 emo opportunities. Need to be smarter.
-third spot on close now seems open. Caccamo looked good in limited showing, he will grab a ton of passes out of thin air. I do worry about his one v one skills but you can’t have someone out there in this day and age ball watching with reckless abandon. Good on the coaches for making the change. I hope Caccamo starts vs Manhattan.
-tough break for Clary, that has to be so very frustrating. Fingers crossed it’s not what we fear. Ssdm was already a problem area (though I thought the unit did okay tonight) and to lose two rotation players is tough.

Gary Gait says junior Landon Clary will get an MRI tomorrow to assess a lower body injury sustained in the second half of tonight’s game.

Tbh, that’s not very limiting. Gate is a dirty team. 2nd quarter? 2nd half?

Thanks for the link to the clips, that was nasty.

Maybe the replays on that link were too zoomed in as I didn’t see many SU teammates help escort Mule to the sideline while Colgate dudes were pushing him back.

Never seen a clothesline check like that only given a personal foul. Should’ve been tossed, imo.

Im a big Clary fan ..he's had a tough go with injuries. a RS junior . Do you all think he gives it one more go to come back ? His leadership is important to the formula

sadly for him if it’s another ACL, he should maybe hang it up. Hope I’m wrong but it almost seems chronic at this point. I can’t get that image out of my mind of Clary frantically limping off at Princeton last year

Didn't have a concussion at Princeton? Yeah if it's another ACL it's time to move on. Hopefully it's not and he can get back this yr.

yeah .,,I just read that you are 6X more likely to tear an ACL a second time after you've done it once ..so for his future health, mobility , arthritis, may be best ..doesn't always feel like it here / on game day, but there is more to life than lacrosse ...

What was Spallina complaining about early in the game when the gate goalie cleared the ball right past him. I watched the ball and didn’t see what followed. Did the goalie hit JS with his stick?

Hiltz with 3 goals and 3 assists may be one of the most significant stats coming out of this game. Hiltz operating on this level makes defending this offense far more difficult.

Slashed the crap out of him but Spallina was called for goaltender interference. Went out of his way to hit Spallina.
