Day 18 Camp 8/19/2014 Tweets, Articles, Photos, Video

Custis is a good fit at TE and a matchup nightmare. I love the thought of he and Kendall Moore there.

Too bad for Parris, hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Rocco what's with Provo.

Wow. Thought this would be Morgan.

Morgan is going to be getting a ton of run at corner. They way they rotate at corner there are basically 3 starters.

Parris is a big blow, especially as a blocker. Not sure Custis can add as much to the run game as Parris did.

he might be a "good fit" in time. but, has he ever played TE before?

This is Kendall Moore's time to shine.
See, Kendall can block. No question about it...his hands are suspect though. If we switch between him and custis, we start becoming predictable. Hopefully Parris didnt tear anything

With Josh Parris out and Kendall Moore (lower body) not participating in 11-on-0s, freshman Jamal Custis took all first-team reps at TE.

If he needs surgery its definitely some sort of a tear at least a partial. The first thought is usually ACL when you hear lower body but the fact that he hasnt already been declared out for the reason is at least a small ray of hope. That being said I wouldnt be shocked if the announcement in the next few weeks has him out for the year.

Ashton Broyld also worked with the 1s at H-back while Brisly Estime worked with the 2s. He's coming off a sprained ankle.

Doesn't say much for Provo.

With the announcement of Josh Parris' injury earlier today, Jamal Custis worked with the 1st team a few times. Moore was only in drills.

Freshman QB AJ Long (shoulder irritation) participated in drills, but not 11-on-0s again today. Austin Wilson took second-team snaps.

Wilson overthrew Ben Lewis on an out route on one play. Mitch Kimble, who ran the third team, looked solid.

The always-enjoyable-to-watch Tim Daoust was on his game today, pushing his d-linemen at the sleds. Videos coming soon.

Michael Lasker ran with the first team at right guard. Regular 1s Hickey, Trudo (LG), Miller and Foy filled out the line.

Jamal Custis took reps with the second team and one with the first-team offense in 11-on-0s Tuesday, shortly after SU Athletics announced that junior tight end Josh Parris will undergo surgery for a lower-body injury.
The freshman Custis and sophomore Kendall Moore are likely to battle for the starting tight end position, and Moore was returning to cutting in practice — for the 25 minutes of practice that were open to the media — for the first time since hobbling off during practice Saturday morning.
Custis filled Parris’ spot in field-goal protection before Moore also blocked on the second kicking unit. They both joined in route-running and blocking drills with tight ends coach Bobby Acosta later in practice.
Moore ran down the sideline and did not participate in any of the designed plays during the portion of practice available to media.

Syracuse QBs coach Tim Lester said Austin Wilson is playing the best of the backups right now. Long was ahead before injury. Unsure now.

DeAndre Smith said freshman Erv Philips won't take carries ahead of the four older running backs, but he will contribute in some capacity.

Shafer said Parris' injury is similar to Enoicy's. Just cleaning out cartilage. Hopefully shouldn't be a long recovery process.

Shafer said defensive back Josh Mims has decided to leave the team to focus on academics.

Shafer expects Omari Palmer (knee) to return to practice soon. He had been working as the first team left guard.

There are lots of things that require surgery that aren't tears, full or partial. Could be bone spurs, arthroscopic cleaning or a number of other things.
