One of the most important aspects of college basketball to me is reaching the Elite Eight, I judge coaches/programs/conferences by this measuring stick. I think it's a better way to evaluate them than National Championships or Sweet Sixteens, or Final Fours for that matter although FFs are important too especially for the top programs.

Below is the Elite Eight record - how many times a school made it to at least the E8 - of all the Big 6 conference schools plus 5 schools from lesser leagues. The first column is the number of E8s each school reached in the modern era (1985 - 2012, 28 years). The second column is the number of E8s each school reached since 2000 (2000 - 2012, 13 years). The third column is the number of E8s each school reached since the Big East went to 16 schools (2006 - 2012, 7 years). I've included the last two columns because recent results are more important than older data. {NOTE1: Some schools had a few E8s vacated for various reasons but I counted them anyway.) (NOTE2: Texas A&M and Missouri were still in the Big 12 in 2012 and WV was still in the Big East so I left them there.)

Who will do it this year?

Yeah but those NC numbers are rediculous
Those are elite 8 appearances, right?

Still. they're good nearly every year. The rest of the conference rarely puts up a fight. The expanded ACC conference play is going to be interesting.

Yup. All 3 columns are just the number of times a school made it to at least the Elite Eight for the time periods mentioned. These stats have nothing to do with Final Fours or Championships.

And yes, as you mentioned above, the ACC is basically just North Carolina and Duke. Actually, since the Big East and the ACC last expanded, it's been almost all NC - Duke has only made it one time in that time period (the right-hand column). In my opinion, Duke and Miami will fail to do so this year.

As much as I feel we should have a couple more, there are only 5 or 6 teams with more. The usual suspects and UConn who got lucky a few times.
