Welcome to National Tooth Fairy Day!

National Tooth Fairy Day celebrates one of childhood's favorite visitors. The Tooth Fairy is an American tradition with European and superstitious roots.

Losing baby teeth is a sometimes traumatic experience for young children. Enter the world of the friendly, smiling and soothing Tooth Fairy. As a young child's first baby tooth becomes lose, the child often fears losing it. The promise of a visit from the tooth fairy and a gift, turns the occasion into something to look forward to. When the tooth finally falls out, mom cleans it off. It is often put it into a "tooth box". At bedtime, the child puts the tooth under his pillow. The tooth fairy comes after the child falls asleep. She takes the tooth and leaves a small gift, usually money. The tooth fairy leaves a gift every time the child loses a tooth.

Syracuse Basketball: Orange vs. Hoyas is a Nooner on ESPN (TNIAAM; Carey)

So much for primetime.

The Syracuse Orange will host the hated Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, December 17th at noon as the two former Big East Conference foes will meet for the 92nd time.

The Orange will be looking to avenge their defeat at the hands of the Hoyas last season. Syracuse went down to Washington, D.C last season and lost 79-72. That game came in the middle of Jim Boeheim’s nine-game suspension, and the Hoyas proved to be too much for the Orange, who sorely missed their head coach.

After their contest in early December last year, the two teams finished on opposite sides of the spectrum. The Orange squeaked into the NCAA tournament and had a magical run to the Final Four. The Hoyas on the other hand, went 7-11 in Big East play and finished the year at 15-18 (chortle...).

Syracuse will face some good competition this season in the non-conference schedule. The Orange will also play South Carolina in Brooklyn, travel to Wisconsin, play UConn in MSG, and host St. John’s.

Will Hamidou Diallo pull a Thon Maker? (aseaofblue.com; Hodges)

Diallo immediately responded with one word, "Possibly."

Hamidou Diallo out of Queens, New York is one of the highest rated recruits in the high school Class of 2017.

Undoubtedly one of the Kentucky Wildcats' more prioritized recruits, the product of Putnam Science Academy has a highlight-reel type of game full of posterizing dunks. Diallo's a long and athletic player, with an exceptional ability to get to the rim at will.

When he gets there, he's either finishing on top of you or through you. Diallo is relentless around the rim, and can beat you with his mid-range jumper too. During the Nike EYBL regular season, Diallo averaged 18.6 points per game, and recently put up 21.5 during the Nike Peach Jam.

Joining Kentucky in the Diallo recruiting hunt are the likes of UCONN, Syracuse, Arizona, Duke, Indiana, Iowa State, Louisville and many more. The stock continues to rise for Diallo's talents, but there's a chance he may not pick any of these schools to play for. In fact, he may not pick any college at all.

When asked by SNY.tv about potentially taking a route similar to that of Thon Maker by declaring for the NBA Draft and forgoing a season of college basketball, Diallo immediately responded with one word, "Possibly."

He would add in more, "I wouldn't be able to answer that question for you because I'm honestly just thinking about college right now. I want to go to college for sure."

Maybe a bit of a contradicting statement, but merely is just Diallo's way of not ruling out other options. His situation is similar to Thon Maker's, who was drafted 10th overall in this year's draft by the Bucks.

Syracuse's Boeheim Explains Why Coaching Team USA Is 'Fantasy World' (uproxx.com; Wilmes)

Syracuse head basketball coach Jim Boeheim looks grumpy almost 100 percent of the time. A somewhat obsessive, defensive-minded taskmaster, it’s hard to see him wrangling older men who make more money than him and have international ad campaigns, as would be the case if he were to step to the NBA. Few men in NCAA basketball more epitomize the words “old school.”

Boeheim experiences what would ostensibly be a similar experience to NBA coaching with Team USA basketball, but he says it really isn’t all that similar. “This is really different than the NBA,” Boeheim recently told ESPN’s Marc Stein. “This is the best. This is getting the NBA players without agents, without anybody else telling them what they should do, with them willing to do exactly what we have to do to win. So it’s really not coaching in the NBA. It’s not even close. We know that. This is fantasy world.”

The stakes are much different for Team USA than they are in the NBA. Statistics from international play are a non-starter; hardly anyone ever knows or looks at them. All anyone remembers is whether USA won the gold. This is one of the many ways in which team transcends individual in this arena, and makes the culture palatable for the frequently flustered Boeheim, who will be on the sidelines Sunday as the Americans fight Serbia for the gold.
