Welcome to the Start of Hanukkah!
Hanukkah, which is the Hebrew word for "dedication," is a Jewish celebration that lasts eight days and eight nights. It commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, where, according to Jewish belief, a miracle occurred that allowed oil to light a menorah for eight days, when there only was enough oil for one day. The holiday begins on a different day each year, as it follows the lunisolar Jewish calendar, not the Gregorian calendar. It starts on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev, which usually falls between late November and late December.

The Syracuse basketball squad gave up a barrage of 3-pointers to Colgate, but the Orange still collected a 72-58 victory
I can tell you this about our 2017-18 SU hoops outfit: while it doesn’t always look pretty, this team has a knack for not losing its composure and finding a way to get the job done.
Case in point, the ‘Cuse surrendered 14 shots from downtown to Central New York neighbor Colgate, yet our boys somehow managed to squeeze out a winbefore 21,380 fans at the Carrier Dome.

In 2017, Syracuse, Louisville, and North Carolina ranked second, third, and fourth nationally in attendance across college basketball. Only Kentucky outdid these three ACC rivals. The trend is holding true again this season, as the Orange, Cardinals, and Tar Heels, in that order, rank first through third in the ACC in home attendance and total average attendance per game in early non-conference play. Syracuse, Louisville, and UNC benefit from having the three largest arenas in the ACC. But they also benefit from loyal fanbases.

In Tuesday’s only game, BC beat Columbia 81-66 to move to 8-3 meaning they’ve nearly matched last year’s total of nine wins.
With games coming up against Central Connecticut and 2-8 Richmond, BC should move to 10-3. With a few breaks, BC could end up with a winning season despite the loss of the main frontcourt threat Deontae Hawkins, out for the season with a knee injury.

Maggies Trackside Diner replaces 'politically incorrect' one in Liverpool (PS; Weaver)
Maggie Voultsios and Paul Johnston say they care less about politics and more about meatloaf, waffles and the secret to good sausage gravy.
"We are neutral," says Voultsios, who with Johnston opened Maggie's at 214 Oswego St. in late August. "We are Switzerland. Everybody has their right to their opinion."
Political talk at diners is nothing new. But at American Diner, the restaurant that preceded Maggie's, politics was literally on the menu. Former owner Michael Tassone's "Dictator Obama/NYS Special (King Cuomo)" drew customers from around the region and attention on Fox News as, possibly, the nation's most politically incorrect diner.
That diner closed earlier this year. Voultsios and Johnston said they were regular customers who came for the food more than the rhetoric. Both had experience in the restaurant business; Voultsios was part of the team that ran the Steak & Sundae in Eastwood.
