Welcome to Happy Birthday to You Day!

It's been translated into at least two dozen languages, and Guinness World Records once called it the most recognizable song in English. Chances are you know it by heart and it has been sung to you as well. What is it? It's "Happy Birthday to You," of course! Although today is commonly celebrated as the anniversary of the song's publication, it likely wasn't published on today's date. Rather, today is the birthday of the woman who wrote the song's melody, and that is the real reason why today is "Happy Birthday to You" Day.

Goodine Rises in New ESPN Rankings – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Leonard)

ESPN updated its top 100 rankings for the Class of 2019 on Friday and it should put a smile on plenty of SU fans faces. 2019 point guard commit Brycen Goodine has jumped all the way to #65 in the latest rankings. The 6-4 combo guard from St Andrews in Rhode Island wasn’t even ranked in the previous edition of the ESPN 100. However, during the in-between-time, Goodine raised his stock by balling out for the Boston Amatuer Basketball Club in the Nike EYBL circuit and reeling in the Rhode Island Gatorade Player of the Year award.

In 31 games on the Nike EYBL circuit, Goodine was clearly the best player on his team. The SU commit averaged 19.2 points per game and shot 38% from downtown. Over a two game-stretch in the middle of the season, Goodine went 10-17 from three-point territory and followed a 28 point outing with his season-high 31 point outburst on the next night.

To compare Goodine to former SU point guard Michael-Carter-Williams seems lazy. Especially, considering MCW also played his high-school ball at St Andrews–the same school as the 2019 commit. However, Goodine, while only listed at 6-4 compared to Carter-Williams’ 6-6 frame, also has long arms and a lanky stature that should be perfect for the top of the zone like MCW was. Offensively, Carter-Williams was a more mature ball-handler and driver at Goodine’s age but didn’t have his range and three-point shooting stroke.

Date set for Syracuse basketball game against Georgetown at Carrier Dome (PS; Waters)

The date is set for Syracuse's home game against Georgetown next season.

The two former Big East rivals will meet at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Dec. 8, according to a source familiar with both schools' schedules.

A start time and television information is not yet available, although the game is not likely to be on any of the Fox channels, which are home to most Big East telecasts, since the game is at Syracuse.

This will be the first time that former Georgetown great Patrick Ewing returns to the Carrier Dome as the coach of his alma mater. Ewing took over as the Hoyas coach prior to the 2017-18 season.

Syracuse beat Georgetown 86-79 in overtime last year at the Capitol One Arena in Washington D.C.

The Dec. 8 date makes sense. Syracuse officials have already announced home games on Saturday, Dec. 1 against Cornell and Saturday, Dec. 15 against Old Dominion.

Siena basketball's Bayer scratching "itch to play" (timesunion.com; Singelais)

Braedon Bayer, a former walk-on at Syracuse, showed for one day this March he could contribute at the highest level of Division I basketball. He came off the bench to help the Orange beat Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament.

He wanted more. He'll finally get a chance to play regularly at the Division I level at Siena College.

Bayer, a 6-foot-4 guard, will suit up for the Saints in 2018-19 as a graduate student after his transfer was approved by the schools and the NCAA on Monday. He has one year of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately.

He visited the campus in Loudonville at the end of May.

"I felt like I was already one of the oldest guys on the team,'' Bayer said in a phone interview from his parents' home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. "Just leadership, experience, obviously playing in the tournament last year, they all really liked that, that I have some big-time experience with national television-type stuff, so all of that. I think I can just bring experience and a leadership role into the team this year. Especially with a new staff, everyone's starting at square one, so that kind of feels good for me coming here as a veteran. I'll be one of the go-to guys who has been through it already."

In a basketball reunion, Akoy Agau returns to Louisville — what does he add? - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Geisinger)

Late last week, Louisville basketball added its 10th scholarship player for the 2018-19 season: grad transfer Akoy Agau.

Agau arrives in Louisville by way of SMU, and before that: Georgetown. However, this is a reunion of sorts, because prior to landing at Georgetown: Agau played at Louisville. In fact, the 6-foot-8 forward was a part of Louisville 2013 recruiting class, which also featured Terry Rozier (Scary Terry!) — the first to arrive after the program’s national title.

In the program’s final season before joining the ACC — 2013-14 — Agau played in 19 games (95 minutes) and scored 17 points. He transferred out of the program not long after that, though —halfway through the 2014-15 season.

A few months before he could take the floor for Georgetown, Agau tore his ACL, which cost him the 2015-16 season. After the 2016-17 season — 32 games, eight starts for Agau at Georgetown — he went south to Texas: SMU.

Quick Numbers

While playing for a Shake Milton-led SMU team in rebuild mode — after sending Sterling Brown and Semi Ojeleye to the NBA — Akoy Agau helped the mustangs win 17 games. Agau made nine starts, and appeared in 27 games; he shot 51.2 percent from the field and posted an offensive rebound rate just under 10 percent, which is solid.

According to Synergy Sports, Agau shot 53.8 percent on post-up attempts — scoring 0.94 points per possession. The sample size is small, but that’s solid. He also shot over 56 percent on non-post-up attempts at the basket, too.

Hood completes $36 million expansion of Central New York milk plant (PS; Moriarty)

HP Hood has completed a $36 million expansion that the company says will create 25 new jobs at its milk processing facility in Oneida.

The expansion included the installation of an additional milk production line, cold storage, food security and expanded facility capacity, according to the New York Power Authority, which is providing low-cost power for the expansion.

The facility produces 113 milk and fluid products. It supplies major warehouse operations that provide foodservice, retail and wholesale firms with dairy products manufactured in Oneida and from other HP Hood facilities. Hood owns and operates four other plants in New York.

Hood received the low-cost power allocation from the Power Authority's ReCharge NY program.

Under the program, qualifying businesses and nonprofits statewide can lower their energy costs by as much as 25 percent by using specially allocated low-cost power from NYPA. Half of the power is from NYPA's Niagara and St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt hydroelectric power plants. The other half is purchased by the authority on the wholesale market.
