Nation's Elite Recruits Descend on Top Programs for Midnight Madness (sportingnews.com; Hampford)

It's that time of year again. With the season just around the corner, programs are kicking off their respective seasons with Midnight Madness festivities beginning Friday which means highly regarded prep prospects are taking official visits all over the country.

Not to be outdone, Syracuse is stacking up talent for the weekend. Committed 2016 prospect Matt Moyer is set to attend the opening exhibition. The 6-8 combo forward exploded onto the circuit this AAU season with the VCC Ohio Warriors, using his high motor, length, and versatility on both ends of the floor to land an Orange offer.

However, the real star power lies with the young talent 'Cuse is bringing in. Four top-30 prospects in the classes of 2017 and 2018 will be making their way to campus. In the sophomore class, New York native Jordan Tucker, New Jersey prospect Trevon Duval and Maryland wing Melo Eggleston are all making the trip north, as will elite Pennsylvania freshman Cameron Reddish.

SU Basketball Recruiting: Orange's Top Targets in '14 Early Signing Period (BR; Neuman!)

The Syracuse basketball season is just around the corner. Orange Madness is Friday night, and it will be the first opportunity for fans and media alike to get a look at the new members of the Syracuse squad.

The early signing period for high school athletes is fast approaching, so you can bet Jim Boeheim and his staff are hard at work on the recruiting trail. Are there any players Boeheim could lock up next month? Let's explore it a little deeper.

Boeheim already has four commits for his 2015 class, according to247Sports, so there isn't much work left to do on that front. As of now, the Orange don't have any more available scholarships to offer for next year, so signing another player could be tricky. But things happen that cause scholarships to become available. Some players transfer, and others move on early to the NBA.

Needing a subscription to OAA to watch Orange Madness might be one of the lamest things SUA has done. You're already charging people for an event, an amount that anyone would pay, and it's not available nationally like it has been in past years. That charge will cover much more than what they're raking in from subscriptions on Cuse.com. Very depressing to see that.

Jim Boeheim is at the podium.

Asked about the NCAA hearing. Boeheim says he won't discuss the NCAA investigation.

On injured center Dajuan Coleman. Boeheim says he is limited. No timetable. Hopeful he'll be able to do something in November.

Jim Boeheim talks about losses of Ennis, Fair and Grant. "Huge losses. Biggest losses we've had in a while.''

Boeheim on freshman PG Kaleb Joseph. "Kaleb is very talented. He's as hard a worker as anyone we've had.''

Boeheim on frosh Chris McCullough. The question is how he'll adapt to game situations.

Boeheim on returning players. First guy he mentions is senior Rakeem Christmas. "He's improved a little bit every year.''

Boeheim also notes that Christmas graduated in 3 years. First player to do that in Boeheim's tenure. "Very difficult to do.''

Boeheim on Chino Obokoh. He's missed the first week of practice, but practicing now. "Very important.''

In the backcourt, Boeheim notes that Trevor Cooney and Mike Gbinije are in 5th year of college. It's actually their 4th. 5th is next year.

More on Rakeem Christmas: "His post moves are better. He's more aggressive.''

On Gbinije: He could play 3 positions. PG, SG and SF. He's better prepared this year to play the position.

Boeheim notes that Dean Smith never asked a 1st-year player to play more than 1 position. So Gbinije in his 2nd year should do more.

Billy Owens is at media day. He'll play in the Legends Game tonight at Orange Madness.

Boeheim on last year's poor shooting. "Hopefully, we'll shoot the ball better this year.''

On this year's team defense, Boeheim notes the loss of Baye Moussa Keita. Hard to replace, says Boeheim.

However, Boeheim also notes that when Keita was hurt last year, Christmas played better for longer periods of time.

Boeheim is asked how to improve shooting. My answer: Recruit better shooters. And Malachi Richardson/Tyler Lydon are on the way.

Boeheim on ACC: Louisville is really good, the league is really good. We lost to the last-place team.

Boeheim's presser comes to an end.
