It’s National Lager Day! Lager is a type of German beer that is bottom fermented and lightly hopped. It is usually stored for at least three weeks after brewing before it is served.
Lager is the dominant style of beer throughout the world, except in England where ale is the favorite style. The only real difference between ale and lager is that ales ferment and age quickly at warm temperatures, while lagers ferment and age slowly at cool temperatures. These different types of fermentation allow for a vast difference in flavor and aroma.

Mike Hopkins on First Career Win" 'It's Never Been About Me' (thejuice; Sagan)
Syracuse interim head coach Mike Hopkins earned the first win of his career on Tuesday night, as the Orange handily defeated Colgate 78-51 to snap a two-game losing streak.
Despite the milestone, Hopkins was quick to deflection attention.
“It has never been about me. I’m happy for the guys that we won after losing two in a row,” Hopkins said. “As a teacher, educator, coach, all we’re trying to do is get them better.”
That’s exactly what Syracuse was on Tuesday.
After a dreadful 7-for-24 performance from 3 against Georgetown in a 79-72 loss on Saturday – Hopkins first game as a fill-in head coach – Syracuse rediscovered its shooting touch against the Raiders, finishing 14 for 30 from downtown.

The Orange received four 3-pointers each from three different players, including Michael Gbinije, who finished with 17 points on 4-7 shooting from 3, six assists and four rebounds.

NCAA Selection Committee Will Take JB's Suspension Into Consideration (PS; Waters)
In the eyes of the NCAA's Selection Committee, Syracuse without coach Jim Boeheim is like a team without a key player.
Dan Gavitt, the NCAA's vice president of men's basketball championships, said the committee will view Boeheim's absence from the sideline during his nine-game suspension in the same way that it assesses a team that loses a player for a specific amount of time and then gets that player back prior to the NCAA tournament.
"The player and coach availability issue is one of the factors that the committee takes into consideration,'' Gavitt said Wednesday. "It's no different than a player who's not available for whatever reason, be it injury or suspension. The committee can judge the impact of losing a player or coach for a game or a group of games.''
Gavitt said it didn't matter that the reason for Boeheim's absence is an NCAA-imposed suspension.
"The reason for the unavailability is considered without prejudice,'' Gavitt said. "It would be the same thing as if a player is unavailable because a coach or the school decided to suspend the player for a certain number of games.''
Boeheim has already served two games of his nine-game penalty. Syracuse is 1-1 without him, losing at Georgetown on Saturday and beating Colgate on Tuesday night. The Orange's next game is against St. John's on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Boeheim will return to the SU bench for the Orange's game against North Carolina at the Carrier Dome on Jan. 9.
