National-Corned-Beef-Hash-Day-September-27-1.jpg

Welcome to National Corned Beef Hash Day!

National Corned Beef Hash Day is observed annually on September 27.

Making corned beef hash is a great way to use up leftovers. Corned beef hash became popular during and after World War II as rationing limited the availability of fresh meat.

The Hormel Company claims it introduced corned beef hash and roast beef hash to the United States as early as 1950. However, “hash” of many forms has been part of the American diet since at least the 19th century, as is attested to by the availability of numerous recipes and the existence of many “hash houses” named after the dish.

Syracuse Football: Dino Babers says the Loud House travels well (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers was teary eyed talking about the Loud House representation at Tiger Stadium on Saturday. ITLH breaks it down

Attendance is always an issue to discuss in college football. Specifically the Syracuse football team. This past Saturday was the first road game of the season and despite the questions at home with attendance, SU traveled well to Tiger Stadium.

With his first media opportunity, head coach of the Orange Dino Babers spoke about the fans who traveled to the game and the impact they had on the team:

“I’ve got to thank the fans. Even after the game, I mean (starts to get teary), you guys know I’m not a very emotional guy. After the game I’m running into fans and they’re saying things like, good job coach and I recognized those fans. The fans were fabulous during the game and you could actually hear them. Which is pretty spooky for how big Tiger Stadium is.

Even during the game, you saw Orange. How cool is that to see Orange in the land of purple and gold? You could really feel their presence in the stadium. My hat is off to them and I hope they’re proud of this team, despite the loss, that they were proud of the effort. I’m glad they came and traveled and supported us.”

Syracuse Football: Top 5 Plays of Week 4 Versus LSU (video highlights) (itlh.com; Peelman)

Syracuse Football put up a heck of a fight against LSU in Baton Rouge. Though they came out on the wrong side, they still earned respect. Inside The Loud House brings you the Top 5 Plays of the Game.
Syracuse Football went into Baton Rouge as serious underdogs. In fact, according to NunesMagician.com the Orange were 23.5 point underdogs. Sure enough though, despite all odds, with five minutes to play, the Syracuse Football was still in the game, down only two.

Yeah, Syracuse ended up losing 35-26 because the Orange gave up a touchdown on LSU’s last series, but they put their heart and soul into winning this game and it showed. The Orange did not play their best game, not by a long shot, but they showed the ACC and the nation they will not be an easy out for the rest of the season.

After the game, the players knew they let one get away. Eric Dungey may have took it hardest as he lightly blamed himself for not doing enough when the Orange had a chance to do so. Check out his quote from Syracuse.com:

“Moral victories? Who cares. We want to win.”

He’s right. Syracuse Football needs these types of wins to show they can play with the big boys of college football once again. A close loss is still an L on the standings for the year and those can add up fast.

Dino Babers: ‘Belief without evidence, we’re a better team this year’ (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers believes that this year’s squad is miles ahead of last year’s team. ITLH breaks down his comments.
After four weeks of football the Syracuse football squad is exactly where they were last season, .500. Despite that similarity, head coach Dino Babers believes that this year’s squad is significantly better than last year’s team.

“Belief without evidence. Having faith on things unseen. I think we’re playing well. The hard thing about our country and any football team is that it comes down to wins and losses. I know we’re getting better. But I can’t prove it in the box score. I can’t prove it with the win-loss record, but I will say we’re a better football team.

This team would really get after the 2016 Syracuse football team. It would really get after that team. But the schedule may be so difficult and we may not be able to see it in the wins and losses, but we’ll see. It’s still a young season. We’re only a quarter of the way done. We’re at the same point we were last season, 2-2. We have 8 games left in our season with an opportunity to play 9 and we’re excited.”

Yet Another Former Syracuse Football Coach is on the Other Sideline This Weekend – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Edelstein)

Syracuse football has already come face-to-face with two former coaches this season.

In what has been called an emotional game for the Orange in week 2, SU rivaled former Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer as he returned to the Carrier Dome for the first time since being fired at the end of the 2015 season. Shafer is not the defensive coordinator for Middle Tennessee State.

Last week, Syracuse went head-to-head against former SU assistant coach Ed Orgeron in Baton Rouge. Orgeron is now the head coach at LSU.

As the Orange turns the next page in the 2017 football season, it encounters yet another familiar character in the Syracuse football coaching story.

This time, former Syracuse offensive coordinator George McDonald will be across the field. McDonald is in his third year as wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator at NC State.

While emotions were not said to be a factor in the SU loss to LSU on Saturday, the Orange has now lost both games with former coaches on the other sidelines. If for no other reason than bowl chances toward the end of the season, it’s important Syracuse gets the W after this one.

Is Syracuse Wideout Steve Ishmael Primed For A Decline? – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Aki)

Steve Ishmael is doing his best Amba Etta-Tawo impression this season. The senior wideout has filled the shoes of the graduated Etta-Tawo very nicely this season, as evidenced by his nation leading 45 receptions (seven more than the next player) which has produced 512 yards, good for third in the nation.

Ishamel’s strong start has landed him an early season add to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. Sound familiar? It should. Etta-Tawo did the same thing last season.

By extrapolation (which is not recommended by 10 out of 10 math teachers), Ishmael is on pace to shatter Etta-Tawo’s receptions and yards records. But keep in mind that through four games, the now Jacksonville Jaguar was also on pace for 20 more receptions than he ended up with and almost 1,400 more yards as well. So extrapolation isn’t the best of methods.

However, Etta-Tawo’s tale may cause some concern for Ishmael’s production for the rest of the season. After game four, Etta-Tawo’s hit a steady decline. While that can be expected with ACC opponents, his numbers really bottomed out from his early season production against mostly bottom tier pass defenses. Through four games, Etta-Tawo averaged 176.5 yards on an even 10 catches. But in the final eight games, those numbers were nearly sliced in half down to 97 yards with less 6.7 catches per game. In that final eight game stretch, Etta-Tawo only eclipsed the century mark in yards three times after having a pair of 200-plus yard games through his first four starts and only caught double-digit receptions twice after averaging 10 catches to begin the season.

Breaking down Etta-Tawo’s decline, there were a number of factors that caused his production to dip. First, in that eight game stretch, Syracuse faced five pass defenses in the top half of college football, three of which were in the top 30. You can essentially toss another game out the window since SU played Wake Forest in the middle of Hurricane Matthew. So in six of the Orange’s final eight games, the cards were stacked against the passing game. Another factor is Eric Dungey’s health. When the quarterback went down, so did the passing attempts. After he got hurt, the Orange was attempting about five fewer passes per game.

the beat guy talks about a mediocore(su) team having a let down, I guess that assumes NC st is elite now? so what happend against SC game 1?

marshall and FSU threw for an avg 315 yds and ran for 100.. so they can be moved on.

Can our D stop giving up 1-2 huge passing plays a game? 7-8 great possessions on D and then 2 mistakes and its all lost..
