Welcome to National Linguine Day!

Today is Linguine Day! Linguine (often misspelled “Linguini”) is a long, flat, narrow type of pasta. It is most commonly used in seafood or pesto dishes such as linguine alle vongole (“linguine with clams”).

Linguine, which means "little tongues" in Italian, originated in the Liguria region of Italy. Take a moment to imagine you’re there at one of the local trattorias, taking in the wonderful aromas of good, hearty pasta dishes!

Have a favorite linguine dish? Serve it tonight in honor of National Linguine Day!

Only Winning Will Return Fans to Dome for SU Football (thejuice; Bierman)

Item: It’s a simple solution to the decline of fans that have been showing up to Syracuse home football games most of this early century, following last Saturday’s announced smallest Dome crowd in 32 years witnessing the impressive second half comeback win over ACC rival Wake Forest. The answer? As the late SU alum Al Davis made famous among his repertoire of sayings during his illustrious pro football career running the Oakland Raiders, “Just win, baby.”

Much has been made most of the last 15 years in the media, on fan message boards, and wherever else Syracuse football is discussed, about the absolute lack of in-person support for the program since the end of the Paul Pasqualoni years, through the disastrous Greg Robinson era from 2005-008 in which one of the sport’s historically great programs was driven to rock bottom, through Doug Marrone’s four seasons of cleaning things up with two bowl appearances, to the current Scott Shafer run which certainly appears to be on an uptick with a chance to equal the best start to a season since the 1991 team went 3-0 (and actually 4-0) with a victory Saturday over Central Michigan (12:30 p.m. ET / ACC Regional Sports Networks).

But if you look at the numbers during the Dome era since the building housed its first game in 1980, it’s clear to see that rarely have ‘Cuse fans filled the Dome for an entire home schedule without at least one game hosting a crowd under 40,000, only nine seasons in 36 to be exact, and NONE since 1999. So you can throw away all the slick marketing campaigns and promotions, $100 season tickets, free ticket giveaways to military members and charitable organizations, only winning season after winning season will provide the university with a chance to alter the turnstile decline.

Recruiting Roundup: Jay Rose Says He Will Decide Thursday (thejuice; Cheng)

...
Moving to football, the Jay Rose sweepstakes will end on Thursday, he tweeted on Monday. The 2016 TE/QB prospect is down to his final two choices: Syracuse and UConn. Rose had also been considering Wisconsin and Wake Forest, but was only being looked at as a tight end. Both the Huskies and Orange are looking at him as a quarterback.

At their request, this network is being blocked from this site.’s Mike McAllister reports that Syracuse has offered 2017 quarterback Daulton Hyatt. The Alabama product also holds offers from Miami, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. Hyatt has also previously camped at Alabama, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.

Let's Fix the #OrangeOut/Attendance Issue Right Now (TNIAAM; Pregler)

The Syracuse Orange defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday 30-17. It was pretty much exactly the kind of game you want to see in person: Big plays on offense and defense, a close game that ends with the good guys running away in the final minutes, and your favorite team honoring a past legend to make you feel all nostalgic. Apparently, that's not what a lot of football fans in Syracuse want to see.

I'm not going to go into how our attendance stinks. We as a TNIAAM community have done that ad nauseam. We've also gone into how much our marketing department... leaves to be desired. I'm done bashing these groups. Saturday just proved that even in our rather loud, passionate community, nothing will be changed by this alone.

So I'm going to offer some solutions. These are non-trademarked, I want no credit for them. Go ahead and steal these ideas for your own potential solutions to bringing the hype/fans to the Carrier Dome.

What To Know For Central Michigan Week (DO; Blum)

Syracuse (2-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast) faces Central Michigan (1-1) in Week 3 looking to build on its first conference win of the season. The game will take place on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Here’s everything you need to know entering SU’s second nonconference game this season.

Do you remember?

The last time Syracuse started out 3-0 was in 1991. The then-No. 17 Orangemen defeated No. 5 Florida, 38-21, at home in the middle of a 10-2 season. Syracuse has had its bumps in the road this season, losingstarting quarterback Terrel Hunt for the whole year in the first quarter of the first game and hybrid playmaker Ervin Philips for up to five games.

But still, Syracuse has a chance to get halfway to bowl eligibility just three weeks into September, much like it did 24 years ago.

Central Michigan head coach John Bonamego is coming off his first career head-coaching win over Monmouth on Saturday. The Chippewas lost their season opener at home to Oklahoma State.

Today; 'American Dresser' to Film in Liverpool (PS; Weaver)

The crew filming "American Dresser" plans to be at the Limp Lizard in Liverpool this evening.

Manny Falcone, the Geddes town supervisor, was told to show up around 5 p.m. "I'm on the list," he said of the extras needed.

If you're not on that list, it still might be fun to stop by. The film crew has been patient so far about onlookers and autograph seekers. Consider these scenes from Solvay on Monday:

'Hit away!'A few people were waiting for Tom Berenger on Monday evening as he went into Pooch's Leisure Bar in Solvay.

Jake Bradley, 14, of Liverpool, brought a baseball because he loved Berenger's role in "Major League."

"Hit away!" Berenger wrote on the ball before posing for a photo with the kid.

"He was great in that movie," Jake said afterward.

Why Pooch's?

About 10 years ago, a film crew happened into Pooch's Leisure Bar on Milton Avenue in Solvay. Owner Jody Pucello talked them into staying and shooting part of their movie, "Rounding Home," there. Since then, Pooch's has been home to about a dozen movies, mostly low- or no-budget, often made by people from the Syracuse area, Pucello said.

do we even have a marketing program at SU? if you have a hotel school you usually have a hotel to show kids how to do things.. do the same with the marketing program here.. really the athletic/marketing here just does a poor job of even trying. the orange out is just another example. it was the wrong game and not advertised well.

David Hale seems to write the positive ESPN articles about Syracuse.
Andrea Adelson is apparently responsible for all negative Syracuse press.

Actually disregard my earlier statement:
