Fran Brown, Syracuse Football New Head Coach, Official Announcement

Avatar updated, and it's time to get on board.

While Fran wasn't my first choice, I'll always support Syracuse football, emotionally and financially. I think Fran is going to bring a revitalized energy to the program, and will up our recruiting game.

I do think his coordinator picks are going to be extremely important and I have a feeling that ADJW is going to be involved in the search and selection. On the positive side of this, the AD has upped their staff budget tremendously in recent years, so money shouldn't be an issue to get almost whoever we think the best fit is.

Lastly, I'm going to assume that Fran is going to be able to attract other positional coaching talent who are great up and coming recruiters and want to learn from the best which will also help the program.

As always, LFGO!

Brown will be gone in 3-4 years, either because he was fired or snatched up by another program. If it’s the latter, there might be enough talent left over for another successful season or two. Bottom line, we’ll be here again before you know it.

He’s a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
That applies to all but about five programs now. Notre Dame couldn’t even keep their successful coach. It’s not a long term problem if you plan for how to sustain. We should all be praying for the problem of him being so good that he was poached.

I’ll never quite understand this take. We should hire someone who no one else would want if they do well? We’re Syracuse — if someone does well then other schools are going to come snifffing around. Deal with that if and when it happens.

This is an old take that people still try to make. Even though we're behind in the race we're doing our best to catch up and aren't afraid to pay anymore. I don't think a successful head coach is going to jump unless it's to a school that has money they don't know what to do with. And if he is that successful and does jump it should be that much easier to find our next head coach when we have something to pitch.

I bet good money they were talking about our new Strength & Conditioning Coach, Sam Elliott.
He can teach our special teams specialists how to grow some real staches.

Wouldnt be suprised if he promoted Nunz to OC

Wildhack said Brown had an incredibly detailed plan for the program. I suspect that includes his primary options for his staff, as well as secondary options.

Wildhack is the guy who dramatically increased pay for assistants during Dino’s tenure. So I’m sure he’s down with the plan.

Which is all to say I’m not advocating that anyone currently on staff be retained. It’s Fran’s kitchen, let him buy the groceries.

This reminds me--and I'm not suggesting that the situation is analogous (although I hope it is)--when Jeffrey Lurie was looking for a HC, Andy Reid, who had no previous HC experience, came in with a binder describing precisely his plan and how he would implement it. Lurie said he was blown away, had never seen anything like it, and made the decision to hire him.

Brown absolutely should get to decide on every member of his staff, but I think a fair request from Wildhack should be that his first choice list includes a former P5 HC to help him out.

When I was at SU a fraternity brother of mine ran for VP of Membership, which is pledge master. He presented an incredibly detailed plan, won easily, and then went on to run an amazing pledge class. It taught me a lesson about planning and preparation.

Great preparation doesn’t guarantee success — lots of factors determine that — but I’m a firm believer that you can’t have success without great preparation.

I bet page one of Brown’s plan was:

Tight ends - use ‘em!

I think it was clear that late in Dino’s tenure JW was very influential in having him hire better help. I imagine he’ll provide a similar level of support for Fran.

I mean, what were people expecting? This isn’t really an attractive job right now, had to take a swing at it.

I’m good with it.

Tom Donahoe went crazy for Gregg Williams who had the best interview ever. 17-31
