I don't feel bad for any of the coaches. They are paid to achieve results. If the results aren't there we part ways and next man up. Shafer keeps saying next man up. It's time he learns that should apply to coaches also including him. No buddy should feel bad. These guys are coaches and have all been fired at one point or another. That's the field they chose and they know what the outcome is going to be more times then not. At the end of the day this is a business not the buddy club.

Like a lot of people have said, get rid of him now and let Gregory take over.

I highly doubt Gregory would be a better coach right now,maybe in a few years. It takes time to build a good rapport and a system with players and just maybe some players here might not have that "it" with Reed. Doesn't mean they don't get along,but there really some bad technique that is being displayed out on the field this year and Spielman was pointing that out. Maybe Bullough is dictating too much on scheme over what they players feel what is comfortable with them,same with Reed.

Something is just not right going on up there and changes need to be made if we are going to move forward whether it is a coaching change or defensive scheme.At times the kids are turning in the wrong direction when receivers are breaking down field...Why should be the question. Are the safeties expecting corners to be where they are not?

Amazing that he seemed to be a good coach last year...the defense was #29 in the country against the pass last year...but he forgot how to coach this year.

Does ever occur to any of you that not all kids respond to coaching? There are plenty of players that never get good (or even better) when coached by the best of coaches. Another thing is, why in God's name would you people think that because someone was a great player they'd make a good coach. MJ and Pete Rose were great players and horrid coaches. Magic Johnson was another one. I have way of knowing whether Reed is a good coach or a bad one, and neither do you. Be careful what (and who) you ask for. You may just get it and you'll deserve it.

Speed is the most overrated attribute of players. A 4.5 guy can hang with a 4.3 guy with the proper positioning and technique. Hips, agility, mental awareness, acceleration as well as other attributes are probably more important than straight line speed. It means nothing without the rest of the pieces or the awareness of how to use it.

It makes a big difference on a go route or a post, which is what we usually get beat deep on.
On a side note, I think we should blitz the safeties every play. They always seem to bite on play action or are slow to react to passes in the air. Just send them every play to at least try and force the qb into mistakes.

Agreed, it's a mess and looks like beyond fixing this year. In addition our head coach is suppose to be a back 4 specialist, it's like a Marrone O line being inept.

Our safeties do get caught looking in the backfield all the time leaving our corners without over the top help. That is what my old HS football coach would call "no man's land" where you have absolutely no shot at making a play on anyone.

Yeah we'd almost be better off playing no safeties at all and just throw a couple extra linebackers in there. Safeties standing 20 yards off the line of scrimmage and watching balls get chucked over their heads like it's their job really aren't helping us.

That's baloney. Kids get by on talent at lower levels, not to mention they may not even receive high level coaching. You are making a blanket statement. Neither you nor I know how some of these kids respond to the increased technique required or more complicated schemes. I do know that I won't make statements about something I don't know is true.
