I think so, we have only 4 players with experience playing JB's zone. Howard, Coleman, Roberson and Lydon. Also there will be very limited experience with the zone in the back court with only Howard (1 year) having any experience at all.

Honestly, I'm a huge fan of the zone but I think this is the year we play more man than zone as well as a lot more full court pressure... JB will demonstrate he is not one dimensional.

This is not the year.

Yes. Based upon past experience JB has determined that the zone is not effective in the NCAA tournament, so he will be changing things so SU can finally have a defense to get to the final four.

How is this negative? We've won a higher percentage of our games side we went all out zone than we did before. We've made two final
Fours. Now if you said we will apply more pressure, I can agree with that, but I see no chance of any M2M until Hop takes over.

Both FF run teams had lots of zone experience, this team has very little.. I'm seeing a pretty good offensive team but I'm afraid too much zone this year may not be in JB's best interests.

If you can't play zone you can't play m2m. This team will be dominant defensively in the zone, especially with a legit 7 footer available to us.

Also, I think this team has the potential to be one of the top defensive teams of app time. Let's say we run out Howard, Battle, Lydon, Roberson, and Chukwu. How you gonna score against that, Battle and Howard will be ball-hawks and run players off the 3 point line. Lydon and Chukwu will block everything in sight and Roberson will make sure their are no second chances. Potentially, this could be the best D we've ever seen here. I'm more worried about scoring, frankly.

And the fact that we will likely be using more pressure defense this year (and thus spending time in practice working on the press) actually makes it LESS likely that we will be playing m2m

If last year didn't teach us that the regular season isn't that important then no regular season ever will.

If our defense isn't as good in November than it will be in March. I am okay with struggling defensively early if the offense is better. As I know JB will coach the D up and that by March it will be as good as possible.

Would you be interested in purchasing some prime swampland I have for sale?

2000 plus posts, Boeheim as your avatar... JB has reemphasized, restated, reconfirmed... his is a zone team. He's done the analytics. It wins games when it is the sole defense. He recruits to the zone.

Yes, Ive been around quite a while and most know I'm a huge supporter of both JB and the zone. But I must have missed JB saying he would definitely not consider playing m2m at all this year? I know it's been a very long time since he played it but I hadn't heard he ruled it out.. Got a link?

We have a better chance of playing our entire home schedule at LeMoyne's basketball court than playing man.

There are about 100 sound bytes of JB saying we're a zone team, program, etc etc, him saying "we play the zone at Syracuse". Nothing's changing until he is gone. If we were going to play even a little man we would have done it at least a few times in the past decade. Nothing's changing.

You may be right, perhaps as br801 pointed out I may have overstated when I said More m2m than zone, but I also don't remember him saying he would never use it again.

In a word: NO FING WAY. Aside from all the normal reasons, JB has a team that could be historically good with the zone this year. And the zone has been historically good since 2009 in the NCAA tournament. Syracuse has rarely given up 70+ points in many NCAA tournament games since then and has the programs best results. With the way he has had the zone clicking in March, if JB can get a team who can consistently put up 80 ppg, we will the NC without breaking a sweat.

As long as he's on the sideline I doubt we ever see it used in a normal game situation.
