Class of 2020 K/P Jackson Kennedy (VA) PWO TRANSFER TO SYRACUSE (4/29/24)

To show you how old I am. I voted for Jackson in the 1976 Dem primary. Tough on Russia.

Scoop never saw a defense authorization contract that he didn't like. Boeing.

Kennedy was the place-kicker and punter for the Big Red and earned All-Ivy second team honors last season. He was 21-30 on field goals during his career at Cornell, with a long of 46 yards. Kennedy also hit on 41 of 41 PAT attempts for the Big Red. As a punter, he averaged 39.4 yards per kick on 81 career punts.

With two seasons of eligibility left, he gives the Orange an experienced backup behind starters Brady Denaburg and Jack Stonehouse. Jadyn Oh is the other placekicker on the roster, but now Syracuse will have someone behind Denaburg and Stonehouse who has had to handle kicking under pressure.

I read somewhere not long ago that Brady Denaberg had the lowest FG made % in the ACC last season. I knew he didn’t have a great season but didn’t realize how bad it was. 10-16 is not good.

Kennedy was 14-19 but I think he got hurt around the end of October. Late in October, he was 13-15 and going great. But he only tried 4 FGs in his last 4 games and only made 1 of them.

So he might well be a lot better than the 14-19 he ended the season with.

His longest FG at Cornell was 46 yards. It looks like he never even tried a kick of 50 yards or longer.

This should be a good battle. I suspect Brady has the stronger leg and Jackson is more accurate. That is what the stats say right now.

He was known as the “Senator for Boeing”

There is nothing wrong with keeping both and accurate shorter range kicker and an erratic one with a cannon for a leg for the bombs.

According to the .com article on Kennedy’s transfer, 3 of Denaberg’s misses were from beyond 50 and 2 of those were at 57 yards. Still room for improvement though.

He also had one blocked for a TD. Would prefer he isn't our field goal kicker in the future.

This is true but he had perfect conditions for most of his games and placekicking is at a different level than it was 20 or 30 years ago.

A good placekicker needs to be at or above 90%. 62.5% is not cutting it.

With the conditions our kickers enjoy, we should always be at or near the top of the ACC in placekicking. Last in FGs made and tied for last in kicking percentage is unacceptable.

Some of those misses played a major role in games we lost. We can and must do better.

71.4% without the 2 57 yard attempts is probably a more realistic picture of where he was last season, still in the bottom tier.

Still, not great numbers for someone playing most of their games in ideal situations

My concern would always have been how many of the kicks he made were really kicked that well.

Sure he made kicks but so many were squeakers that once you added any distance the odds went down.

even XP looked to be an advanture
