We can do anything we want. We're college students!
I keep saying this. Imagine if the NFL didn’t have a commissioner and each division was in charge of their own contracts? You would have 8 different leaders going in 8 different directions and trying to undermine each other. This is what is happening in college sports right now.CFB needs a daddy, otherwise it's chaos. Moneyed groups never stop trying to have things their way.
There isn't parity now and college football is doing just fine. People want to watch a good product that they can gamble on. Schools putting out a high end product are tired of supporting the check cashing programs.I keep saying this. There is no direction and every commissioner is out to get more money for their conference and their teams without regard for the overall health of college sports.
Now in addition to that. You know need to feed the mouths of the NCAA, the thousands of bowl sponsors and people that bring those events to city’s, all while keeping the money away from the athletes.
The NFL is so amazing because of the parity. Once college football realizes that parity is what makes sports so exciting and entertaining, they will thrive. They need one leader, one direction, one contract, even playing rules.
Bottom line, too many people want to keep the status quo in college sports because they all get a nice handout of money. If it were to consolidate into a smaller league, a lot of people would lose their handouts
Those with the biggest checkbook wins.
It’s been doing fine, because up until now the fans of virtually any team can expect to “have a chance” on any given day, or in any given year. Pull the rug out from under 60% of the college sports fan base and just see how it does. There isn't parity now and college football is doing just fine. You would think the lessons would have been learned from the NASL and USFL.CFB needs a daddy, otherwise it's chaos. Moneyed groups never stop trying to have things their way.
You think teams have a chance every week in college football? I guess we agree to disagree. It’s been doing fine, because up until now the fans of virtually any team can expect to “have a chance” on any given day, or in any given year. Yes. But that’s not even what I said. I said they EXPECT to have a chance. Nuance, for certain. But life’s best experiences are constructed on nuance. You think teams have a chance every week in college football? I guess we agree to disagree.

Oh it's a well know secret that whenever the ultra rich are able to deal with something exclusively to themselves they pick socialist systems every time.Ironically, the basic foundation of the NFL structure is found in that verboten "S" word...SOCIALISM!
It allowed a team in Green Bay, Wisconsin to not only compete with, but be on equal footing with a team from NY City.
By pooling all their money together, and negotiating as a group, NFLteams were able to grow into the richest sports league in the world.
I guarantee you, a Jerry Jones-type would vehemently deny any comparison to "gasp" socialist tendencies. But in a structure like the NFL, its been the secret sauce to their success. And honestly, if the greed of the conferences were put aside, they could probably fashion something similar and everyone would get to eat.
401k? How about pto?Who pays for the players healthcare? Compensation, if hurt "on the job"? Long term care if chronically injured?
So who has a better record?
