New OC / RB Coach: Jeff Nixon [Official]

Looked up their rankings. Provided without context (because I have none to provide) :

2017 - 115 Rushing, 24 Passing, 59 Total (405 yards/game)
2018 - 65 Rushing, 19 Passing, 22 Total (459 yards/game)
2019 - 61 Rushing, 43 Passing, 52 Total (422 yards/game)
They had a dual threat QB named Charlie Brewer who ran for around 350 yards in 2018 and 2019. Believe it was more like 450 before they took out the yards lost due to sacks.

Also threw for over 3000 yards in 2018 and 2019. It helped they played 13 games in 2018 and 14 in 2019.

After Coach Nixon and company left, Brewer was not as productive as a senior.

Oddly, in the era of offense those total yards would be ranked higher today:

405 = would be T#50
459 = would be #15
422 = would be #41

I'm not enamored with this hire (what do I know), but if we can get to these offensive numbers we'll be in good shape.

Syracuse is currently #85 in 2023

Put that with a stellar D and it could be pretty good.

They were slightly better in yards per play iirc,

He was co-coordinator with Glenn Thomas who was also in charge of QBs. Will be very interesting to see who is brought in to work with the QBs as that position is so important to team success.

Will we be able to throw the ball? We play in a dome we know running is a strength but would be nice if we took advantage of 6-7 games in perfect conditions
They definitely threw it around when he was calling plays at Baylor.

maybe we can pull Glen Thomas to be QB coach. He's currently only in an analyst role.

Yummy That would be good and they have a working relationship together.

Sounds like we're edging our way to a pretty impressive staff.

This is the equivalent of Dalton showing up at the Double Deuce and kicking butt from night one.
