Why did they get rid of all the trees instead of just some of them?

No they have no water and no trees.

A 'links' course in Pittsburgh?

Why don't they just call it "Mont"?

Before the chain-saws:

The trees don't seem too obtrusive. I doubt the course played any differently. Pittsburgh just had more oxygen.

The outgoing head pro at Oakmont, Bob Ford, said the course was originally designed as a links style course, and over the years the tees grew in. Removing them was a throwback to the original idea. Nevertheless, this US Open is yet another struggle that's not any fun to watch. The speed on the greens is absurd, given the slope in them. Rather than a test to determine the best golfer, it's a stage to identify the least unlucky one that weekend.

i dont think it really shows unlucky golf.. the landing zone is the landing zone whether its near the pin or not.
